Showbiz insider Ogie Diaz has weighed in on Sassa Gurl’s controversial remark toward AC Bonifacio during the media conference for Regal Entertainment’s upcoming film ‘Saving Cherry’.

In the August 8 episode of ‘Showbiz Updates’, Ogie reminded the content creator that while her signature “kanal” humor is part of her personality, there are situations where jokes need to be delivered with more restraint.

“Lesson learned ulit ’yan kay Sassa Gurl. Next time, awat na sa gano’ng mga komento,” Ogie said.

“’Yong pagiging kanal, girl, siyempre minsan inilalagay din natin sa lugar,” he added.

The issue started during the ‘Saving Cherry’ mediacon when AC talked about her experience working with some of the Kapuso stars in the movie, including Barbie Forteza, Mikee Quintos, and Mika Salamanca.

While AC was sharing how happy she was to work with them, Sassa suddenly chimed in with a joke that visibly caught AC and some of their co-stars by surprise.

“Naloka ka sa mga Kapuso, ’no… walang plastikan, ’no?” Sassa quipped.

A video of the exchange quickly circulated on social media, with some netizens criticizing Sassa for what they felt was an unnecessary remark that could potentially create intrigue between artists from different networks.

Others also questioned whether the joke placed AC in an awkward position, especially since she was simply expressing her appreciation for her ‘Saving Cherry’ co-stars.

Following the backlash, Sassa acknowledged the criticism and issued a public apology.

“Saw all your tweets and messages, kinda deserv ko naman talaga ang mabunot,” she wrote.

“As a queer person who represents the baklang kanal girlies, I realized na dapat nga naman talaga ilugar ang kakanalan.”

Sassa’s response showed that she understood why the joke did not sit well with some viewers and acknowledged that her brand of humor still has to be mindful of the situation.

AC, meanwhile, accepted her co-star’s apology, putting an end to any speculation of tension between the two.

Ogie’s comments echoed Sassa’s own realization, emphasizing that humor itself is not necessarily the problem, but knowing when and where to use it matters.

The controversy comes ahead of the theatrical release of ‘Saving Cherry’, headlined by Barbie Forteza and Khalil Ramos.

Sassa and AC are part of Cherry’s barkada in the comedy film alongside Mika Salamanca and Mikee Quintos.

Directed by Ivan Andrew Payawal, ‘Saving Cherry’ is set to hit Philippine cinemas on September 2.
