Kapuso actor Ruru Madrid candidly admitted that he once cheated on longtime girlfriend Bianca Umali, saying the painful experience became a turning point that changed him for the better.
During his guest appearance on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda’ on Tuesday, August 4, Madrid was asked about a statement he previously made on the Kapuso game show ‘The People Have Spoken’, where he said that people are capable of changing.
When host Boy Abunda asked whether he had personally proven that, the actor answered without hesitation.
“Yeah, napatunayan ko na.”
Madrid expressed gratitude to Umali for giving him a second chance despite the mistake he made when he was younger.
“Siguro ‘yon ‘yong pinagpapasalamat ko kay Bianca na kahit po nagkamali ako during that time, I was 20 years old at hindi ko naman po sinasabing dahilan ‘yong pagkabata sa ginawa kong pagkakamali, pero siguro itinuturing ko rin siyang blessing in disguise somehow.”
According to the actor, the breakup made him realize how important Umali truly is in his life.
“Dahil from there, nakita ko po talaga ang kahalagahan ni Bianca. Nag-break kami ng 8 months but now 8 years na po kami. Tinanggap niya ako ulit.”
Because of his own experience, Madrid said he believes people can genuinely change, regardless of the mistakes they have committed.
“Kasi, ang Diyos nga natin marunong magpatawad. At siguro, para sa akin kasi ‘yong cheating choice talaga siya, e.”
“Madali pong magkamali. Pero nasa sa ‘yo na ‘yon kung gusto mong magkamali.”
The ‘Lolong’ star also acknowledged that temptation exists not only in the entertainment industry but in every profession. However, he emphasized that remaining faithful is ultimately a personal choice.
Madrid said he now has many reasons to stay committed to his relationship with Umali. He also praised Umali and said he believes he will never find someone who loves him the way she does. Whenever he feels tempted, Madrid said he turns to prayer to help him make the right decisions.
The actor was referring to Bianca, whom he has previously affectionately called his “Batas.”
Madrid and Umali began dating in 2018 before publicly confirming their relationship in 2022. The couple has since spoken openly about marriage, with Umali previously expressing confidence that their relationship is headed toward the altar.
