Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo said he would prefer not to invite his parents to his future wedding with longtime partner Chloe San Jose, as he wants the occasion to remain a joyful and intimate celebration of their relationship.

Asked by Karen Davila whether he would want his parents, Angelica and Mark Andrew Yulo, at the wedding, Carlos explained that while he has forgiven them for past issues, he intends to maintain his boundaries.
“Kasal po namin ‘yun and relationship po namin ‘yun and mas pipiliin kong kami na lang. Ayaw ko din masira ‘yung moment namin para sa amin dapat dalawa. Ayaw ko ‘yun mamantsahan pa, and marami na din silang ginawa na pinatawad ko na. And hanggang d’un na lang din po,” Carlos said.
“So ahm, hindi po. Gusto ko sa amin lang po iyun and I really wanted to be really full of love and joy kapag nangyari po iyun,” he added.
Chloe, for her part, said she would respect Carlos’ decision regarding his family.
The couple’s relationship has remained in the public eye alongside Carlos’ widely reported rift with his family, which became a major topic during and after his historic two-gold-medal campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Carlos has previously spoken about forgiving his parents, although his latest remarks indicate that reconciliation and forgiveness do not necessarily mean restoring their previous relationship.
His decision drew mixed reactions on social media.
Some netizens criticized Carlos for potentially excluding his parents from a major milestone in his life, with several invoking the importance of family and utang na loob.
Others defended the gymnast, arguing that as an adult, he has the right to decide who should be part of his wedding, particularly if their presence could affect what he wants to be a happy occasion.
One commenter also cautioned against judging Carlos without knowing the full history of the family conflict, while emphasizing that parents should respect the decisions of their adult children and support them in the lives they choose to build.
The divided reactions show how Carlos’ family situation continues to generate public discussion two years after it became widely known. For now, Carlos is also focused on gymnastics as he prepares for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, where he is set to compete for the Philippines alongside his younger brother, Karl Eldrew Yulo.
