Julianne Richards did not originally see VMX as part of her journey into showbiz.

Growing up in Australia, Julianne had a comfortable middle-class upbringing and attended good schools. What she did have from the beginning was a desire to become an actress—and that ambition eventually led her to opportunities she had not necessarily imagined for herself.

“Gusto ko lang talaga kasi mag-artista, but VMX is not something I planned on. It took some time before I actually decided to join the platform,” she shared.

Several films later, Julianne has come to appreciate what the experience has contributed to her growth as a performer.

“I think I’ve learned a lot doing VMX films and for that I could only be thankful,” she said.

Now, the actress—known for projects such as ‘Desperada,’ ‘Pin/Ya,’ and ‘Apoy sa Ibabaw’—is stepping into a different role as host of ‘Pinay Kamasutra 3.’

The 70-minute special brings together some of the steamiest scenes from VMX titles including ‘Mirasol,’ ‘Halinghing,’ ‘Salikmata,’ ‘Butas,’ ‘Pabuya,’ ‘Aliwan Inn,’ ‘Daddysitter,’ ‘Rapsa,’ ‘F Buddies,’ ‘Eks,’ ‘69,’ ‘Kesong Puti,’ ‘Litsoneras,’ and ‘Bedspacer.’

Taking inspiration from the ancient Indian text on love and intimacy, ‘Pinay Kamasutra 3’ gives its subject a distinctly modern VMX treatment.

The compilation introduces viewers to various intimate positions featured across the films, including those referred to as the “ballet dancer,” “stand & deliver,” and “padlock.”

Other sequences make creative use of different settings and visual techniques. The “mirror effect,” for instance, uses reflections to heighten the sensuality of a scene, while another featured sequence takes the intimacy underwater.

There is also what the special calls the “quickie fix,” showing that not every passionate encounter requires an elaborate setup.

Given the subject matter, one might expect Julianne to encounter a few surprises while working on the special. But she had already done some homework.

“Not really. I mean, I did my research on Kama Sutra so I know some of them already,” she said when asked whether any of the featured positions surprised her.

Clearly, Julianne came prepared.

But viewers should not expect her participation to be limited to introducing one scene after another.

Asked whether she would simply serve as the special’s host, Julianne offered a teasing answer.

“Not exactly. I’m going to do something really special for viewers along the way, so watch out for it.”

It is another turn in a career that Julianne admits has unfolded differently from what she initially envisioned. What began as a straightforward desire to become an actress has opened the door to projects and experiences that continue to expand her range in entertainment.
