Aljur Abrenica stars in the upcoming drama-revenge series, Asintado. During a sit down interview with the actor, he would want Kapamilya viewers to wait for Xander’s character development.

He also mentioned his workshop training under director Rahyan Carlos. Aljur also differentiated his role as Xander to his past usual roles. Then, he shared that he had been just like Xander at one point in his life.
What should the viewers watch out for in his role as Xander in Asintado?
“Abangan nila yung page-evolve ng character ni Xander, sa character ko. Kasi madalas karamihan sa mga tao, ‘di natin sila maintindihan kung bakit sila galit, kung saan yung pinanggagalingan nila. Kay Xander, makakarelate sila. At yung mga taong ‘di nakakaintindi, kung meron mang tao sa buhay nila, maiintindihan nila.”
Then, he continued to share that why Xander (and people like him) acts the way he does.
“Kasi lahat ng tao, may pinanggagalingan, eh. Lahat may dahilan kung bakit sila ganyan. At may mga tao rin na minsan nawawalan na ng pag-asa sa buhay, diba? Gusto nalang nilang makapaghiganti. Black and white nalang ‘yung nakikita nila. Abangan din nila. Interesting kasi yung journey ni Xander simula nung nakilala niya si Ana. Nagkaroon siya ng pag-asa sa buhay.”
What would be Aljur’s preparations to be as vengeful as Xander?
“Nag-workshop ako, unang una kay Direk Rahyan Carlos. Self-study, inaral ko talaga, inintindi ko ‘yung pinanggagalingan niya, malalim talaga, eh, malalim yung galit. And from time to time, nagfi-firing ako, shooting para bumalik ‘yung form ng kung paano bumaril kasi medyo nasa action (genre) siya.”
Moreover, Aljur has been in showbiz for so long and his role as Xander in Asintado certainly takes the cake as one of a kind.
“Eto ‘yung unang klaseng character na gagampanan ko. Na related sa politics atsaka yung lalim ng galit for vengeance na naging justice. Usually kasi, kadalasan, before, puro fantasy. Kung merong man medyo light lang din. And yung drama is about pambata. Eto, medyo mature na.”
Aljur also admitted that he also relates to Xander at one point in his life.
“I think, lahat meron, eh. Kasi, sa bawat tao kasi meron tayong inaasinta sa buhay.”
Then, he continued,“‘Di natin nasasapul yung gusto nating mangyari sa buhay kasi may mga bagay tayong hindi naiintindihan. Parang unfair na ‘yung buhay para sa atin. Meron akong point sa buhay ko na naging ganoon ako, eh. Pero ‘yung journey kasi exciting, eh, kasi magkakaroon siya ng pag-asa ulit.”
