  • ’Di Ka Pasisiil’ Marawi documentaries on ANC and Sunday’s Best lead ABS-CBN Finalists in the New York Festivals
  • ABS-CBN News reporter Michael Delizo wins at UP Science Journ Awards

Recognitions continue to pour in for ABS-CBN News after ABS-CBN DocuCentral’s two documentaries on Marawi, which both gripped viewers and earned praises online, were named finalists in the 2018 New York Festivals World’s Best TV & Films competition.

The “’Di Ka Pasisiil” episode of ANC’s “Mukha” documentary series, which featured footage from the war zone and interviews with ABS-CBN News reporters Jeff Canoy and Chiara Zambrano, is nominated in the Current Affairs category.

The “’Di Ka Pasisiil” documentary that aired on ABS-CBN’s Sunday’s Best, which followed Jeff and Chiara’s return to Marawi to share the stories of struggle and survival of soldiers and civilians, meanwhile, is nominated in the Coverage of a Continuing News Story category.

The other finalists in the prestigious competition from ABS-CBN are ANC’s “Local Legends: Bandurria” (Cinematography) about a local master craftsman in guitar-making, and ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management’s “To Love and To Serve” (Station/Image Promotion) campaign, which poetically expressed the love of a “Kapamilya,” and how ABS-CBN is committed to serve Filipinos through its various services and products.

Also bringing pride to the country’s largest news organizations is ABS-CBN News reporter Michael Delizo, whose story about a battery device invented by students won Best Science Story for Radio at the first UP Science Journalism Awards last February 17.

Michael shared that he hopes to inspire the students he featured further as he informs the public about their work.

“I saw the need to feature the battery device because I really see its practical application, especially in urban areas with low access to electricity. I see this more of an advocacy to inform the public of an alternative source of energy that they can use.”

He added the recognition encourages him to do more science-related stories for proactive examinations of the lesser-known areas of discovery and innovation.

“I want to advocate in my works the promotion of better understanding of science and technology in the country and emphasize the practical aspects of the discipline.  My drive in doing this report was really to inspire the students and help communicate their complex, jargon-ridden research,” he said.

The New York Festival nominations and UP Science Journalism award add to the growing number of awards received by ABS-CBN News in 2018 for its programs, campaigns, anchors, and journalists.

The most recent one is at the Eastern Visayas State University-Ormoc City Campus (EVSU-OCC) Student’s Choice Mass Media awards, where ABS-CBN won its fourth Best TV Station Award from the school. Of the 17 awards given, the Kapamilya network also took home eleven trophies including Best News Program for “TV Patrol,” Best Morning Show for “Umagang Kay Ganda,” and Most Influential Public Service host for “Failon Ngayon” host Ted Failon.
