Mark Bautista answered questions for Bb. Pilipinas 2018 Grand Coronation night on his Twitter account.
During the Question and Answer portion, Karen Gallman answered the question: Do you agree that a third restroom should be built for transgenders? Why or why not? LGBTQ+ community and its supporters were disappointed with her answer.
In the said Question and Answer, Karen stated that she would agree on separate bathrooms for transgender people.
“I definitely agree there should be a third restroom for transgender because as women, we would like privacy, and also with men. We have a separate room for the transgenders to serve as equality and privatization.”
Mark, then, took to Twitter to quip that persons with a disability already reserved the third restroom.
“3rd restroom is for PWD right? so dapat fourth na”
Mark wrote in another tweet that a special restroom shouldn’t be an issue. He encouraged people that we all just need to become more accepting and open.
“but seriously we just need to be accepting and open…and i think also be responsible (& respectful) in using the toilet…a special restroom is not an issue i guess…”
One netizen expressed that Vickie Rushton should have had Karen’s crown instead. The said netizen shared her disappointment. The LGBTQ+ community had been fighting for equality.

Another netizen shared that a separate restroom for transgender people only means isolating them.

However, one netizen pointed out that it may look isolation for others but it would seem as comfort for some.
“Karen Gallman’s answer might not sound good to the majority, but it probably just depends on how one will understand it. It might be isolation for many, but it might also be comfort for someone who is worried for discrimination in whichever comfort room they may be going into.”
