Ed Lingao debunks Bobby Tiglao’s Facebook rant

  • Ed Lingao slammed Tiglao’s characterization of journalists.
  • Tiglao called Lingao et.al as Iyakin Millenials and Gurang reporters.

Veteran journalists Ed Lingao slammed another veteran journalist Rigoberto Bobby Tiglao.

In his Facebook post, Lingao castigated Tiglao’s stereotyping of journalists.

“Unang una hijo (and I call you hijo despite your age. Threats and suits for breakfast do not a good journalist make. That is such a shallow and superficial gauge for any journalist”.

The TV5 broadcaster was referring to Tiglao’s May 7 Facebook rank where he categorized journalist involved in an advocacy video campaign for press freedom as “Iyakin Millenial and Gurang Mediocre Reporters”.

In his post, Tiglao describes a “real” journalists who are being repressed as those who received bullets or funeral wreath on their houses or have an actual warning or invitation from the authorities.

But Lingao debunked Tiglao’s characterization saying such threats doesn’t need to be publicized by the journalists just to prove that there are indeed intimidation and threats to their press freedom.

“How do you know that none of us have ever faced threats? Really now.

Lingao also advised the much older Tiglao that his previous works are not licensed to spread propaganda and to demonize other journalists.

“Of course, you have had your time, and you were good during your time as a journalist. But you can’t lean on what you did two decades ago to make up for your current propaganda work. Unlike you, I do not imply greatness on my part, just earnestness. I also avoid belittling other journalists so that I can look good, because as you have proven, doing so only makes us look bad.”

Here’s Ed Lingao’s complete Facebook post on his rebuttal to Bobby Tiglao.

Wala rin kaming karapatan magsalita dahil we do not get threats and suits for breakfast.

Mabuhay ang mga propagandist at spinmaster! At ang mga ambassador na rin! Yung huli, former status.

Unang una hijo (and I call you hijo despite your age. Threats and suits for breakfast do not a good journalist make. That is such a shallow and superficial gauge for any journalist. Why don’t you scratch your testicles and belch loudly na rin? Hijo naman, logic. And maturity. Kulang yata duon.

But then again, how do you know that none of us have ever faced threats? Really now. It just takes a little bit of reading – that is, in case you are interested to know. Oh and I do hope that you are not conflating the threats you faced while you were busy underground with the threats you faced as a journalist — or the attacks you got as a propagandist. Baka it gets confusing for you already. Whatever the case, I would have expected a more mature argument from someone your age.

Of course, you have had your time, and you were good during your time as a journalist. But you can’t lean on what you did two decades ago to make up for your current propaganda work. Unlike you, I do not imply greatness on my part, just earnestness. I also avoid belittling other journalists so that I can look good, because as you have proven, doing so only makes us look bad.

And lastly, what was it that got your goat, hijo? That we talked about these experiences? And that, to you, consitutes whining, drama, “kawawa naman kami?” Hijo naman, you’ve shown intelligence in pushing your spins, perhaps you can show some in pushing principles. We talked about these incidents because these are incidents that should not be happening, and should not be encouraged, especially by elements in government. Are we asking for help or even sympathy from the Almighty Tiglao? Of course not! We put it out there because it is an issue that needs to be discussed. In a different time, you would have said the same thing. But then again, you failed to age well.

Yours truly
A sissy.
