  • Monsour has a say to the issue on the film industry’s decline
  • He stated out three reasons for the flop of local films

Monsour de Rosario, a Taekwondo Olympian, former action star, and currently Makati City’s first legislative district congressman, reacted to director Erik Matt’s opinion regarding the saddening downfall of the local film industry.

He stated out three points regarding his opinion on the issue. First, he blames piracy, because the unauthorized use or reproduction of the films are vast and it gives consumers other options to watch the movies.

Second is that high taxes financially constrain producers to invest in other genres of movies, especially indies.

And third is that malls are monopolizing cinemas, unlike in the past there are independent movie houses that cater to all kinds of movies.

He also added that there are numerous actors and actresses that offers high fees.

“Maraming artista rin ang masyadong mataas magpresyo.”

When asked if what should be done to bring back the patronage in the movie industry he said, “Kailangan talagang gumawa ng paraan upang solusyunan ang mga problema na ito.

Monsour de Rosario is currently running for Vice Mayor in the city of Makati.
