GMA Network earns 5 of the country’s eight short-listed entries at the 2019 New York Festivals

The GMA Network, once again, gave the Philippines the most number of finalists at the 2019 New York Festival’s “Worlds Best TV and Films” competition.

‘Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,’ hosted by Jessica Soho and a top rated and award-wining magazine type show, was nominated for it’s “Salay” feature in the Community Portraits category. This segment showed how students and teachers of Davao Oriental risk their lives as they crossed rivers using an improvised cable to make “Salay“ to reach school.

The country’s longest-running documentary program, ‘I-Witness,’ earned, two nominations this year that included the “War Zone ER” documentary. “Bilanggo ng Isipan,” on the other hand, received a nomination in the Health/Medical Information category. This documentary presented the current lives of people having a mental health problems in the Philippines.

The country was also given another slot in the NYF “World’d Best TV and Films” Competition with the Atom Araullo special episode “No Leftovers,” which was nominated in the Social Issues category. In this documentary, it was shown that food wastage remains a big problem of our country, dissecting how food is wasted from production to consumption.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN earned three nominations – Mission Possible: “Kapit lang Anak” (Hold on, my Child) was nominated in the Best Public Affairs Program category. The “Elsa and Sarah” plug for this Mission Possible episode earned for ABS-CBN a nomination in the Station/Image Promotion category. In the Biography/Profiles category, ABS-CBN was also cited for its Local Legends: Karne Norte episode.
