Episode 7 | Pangako Sa ‘Yo: Ang Pananamantala – Recap and Review

The last two episodes of ‘Pangako Sa’yo’ on its pilot week are rippled with forebodings of Amor’s emotional tragedies. It gives us hints on the avalanche of heartaches that we’ve always been aware of, and would eventually come down to her, whether we like it or not.

The fearful apprehensions continue at the start of the show’s second week, but it is in tonight’s episode that everything crushes asunder for Amor, and we see the most heartbreaking moments of this new series, yet.

PSY Amor

By now, it is evident that Amor’s world has already started crumbling apart. We see her struggle to escape as Diego tries to rape her, while Claudia stares from the distance in horrified silence. We learned that while she’s ambitious and tough, Claudia is still human enough to confess everything she saw, including her sympathy for Amor, to Doña Benita.

But the old woman knows such event could only drag down her family further, so she instills on Claudia’s mind that it is more of Amor’s mistake; feeding again on Claudia’s desire to leave her impoverished situation, to get the hapless lot into her side.

Emotionally crushed and painfully stunned, Amor begins to feel self-pity and guilt, making everyone around her, including her bestfriend Betty Mae, concerned and wondering.

PSY Jail Rape

The news reaches the terrified and baffled Eduardo, who furiously rushes to the prison to confront his brother Diego. But the manipulative Doña Benita already has the situation under her control; managing to keep both Claudia and Diego mum about what really happened. Instead, she uses it to her advantage, painting a disgusting picture of Amor on Eduardo’s head to make the woman that his son loved the most looked guilty and the one to blame. Soon, Eduardo has almost cut his ties to Amor, and the latter desperately awaits for him to rescue her from the depths of her despair.

Overall, this episode is too intense. It managed to illuminate the more exciting and dramatic proceedings that are still set to unravel as the series moves forward. The string of bitter events ensue further uptick in its overall momentum. It’s exhilarating to imagine every drama waiting for us in the next episodes.

I can say, this episode has managed to shed light on our two lead actresses’ capacity, showcasing the extents of their acting skills. Angelica Panganiban is brilliant during her character’s breakdown scene at the hospital, when she found out about her mother’s passing, but Jodi Sta. Maria proves to be equally capable (may be even better).

Amor’s breakdown and confrontation scenes with Eduardo are indeed piercingly painful to watch; that it would be impossible to not cry with her as she begs for Eduardo to believe her.

Filled with tragedies, betrayal, and all the bitterness of failing romance, #PSYAngPananamantala is one solid episode that is impossible not to shake the emotions of its viewers.
