Janno Gibbs who is a comedian, actor, and singer-songwriter responded to a netizen who called him plastic after he posted a comment on Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez’s Instagram post.

Regine posted a picture of herself with the ABS-CBN tower in the background in support of the network using the hashtag #proudKapamilya.

Regine’s post came after the rejection of ABS-CBN franchise renewal by congress on July 10 forcing the network to stop its operations. The network’s shutdown put the jobs of 11,000 employees at risk as the company is undergoing employee retrenchment starting August 31.

Many Kapamilya artists expressed their love and support for the network by being vocal with their concerns on social media. Celebrities mentioned that they will stand by ABS-CBN despite all the issues thrown at the network and will remain hopeful that it will be given a new franchise. Support from non-Kapamilya stars was also received, including actor-singer Janno Gibbs.

Gibbs is close to the Kapamilya couple Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid. That’s why when Regine posted a photo of her supporting ABS-CBN, he also showed his support for the singer and the network by commenting emojis of praying hands and a heart.

While some people saw his act as genuine and sincere, some people were against it saying that his support for the network was plastic. A netizen who commented about him being plastic particularly caught the attention of Gibbs that’s why he responded to the Instagram user.

He said that the netizen was ‘tanga’ or dumb for accusing him of being plastic.

“Tanga,” Gibbs wrote.

The Instagram user also said that Gibbs was the one who is dumb and accusing him of having no projects because he is plastic. The netizen also mentioned that Gibbs was a fool for being upset with ABS-CBN for not including the singer in the network’s Christmas Station ID 2018.

Other netizens also commented about seeing Gibbs liking a post that is in favor of ABS-CBN shutdown that’s why they are questioning his actions of showing support to the network recently. Gibbs responded by telling the Instagram user that ‘like’ means that he acknowledged or read the post. It doesn’t necessarily mean that he agrees with the post.

“Like means i read it. TALAGA!” he said.

After almost a year, Gibbs admitted that his rift with the ABS-CBN network was still not fixed because of his controversial post on Instagram regarding the ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2018.

“Di pa rin okay. Sana maging okay. Alam ko naman iyong ginawa ko na nag-post ako,” he said.

“Well, kung titingnan n’yo naman iyong post ko may smiley naman ‘yon tsaka laughing face at peace sign. So medyo pa-cute naman iyong post ko. Pero siyempre nung pinick-up na nung iba, nawala na iyong smiley face… Naging serious na iyong dating,” he added.

In his Instagram post on November 18 last year, Gibbs posted a photo of his contract signing with the network and told the netizens not to look for him in the station ID.

“Throwback to September 12 this year (2018) when I signed with Star Music Philippines. Naalala ko lang. Sila yata di ako naalala e,” he wrote in the caption, adding the hashtags #wagnyokohanapinsastationid” and #asapnilayan,” he said.

Some netizens showed their support for him while some asked him to delete the post as it displays unprofessionalism from the artist. Gibbs has already deleted the controversial post but it still garnered a lot of attention from netizens.

Claiming he had no intention of offending ABS-CBN Management, Gibbs acknowledged his mistake during the premiere night of the movie Sanggano, Sangggago’t Sanggwapo, and explained the controversial post.

“I’m a comedian. In jest naman ‘yun, may halong patawa naman ‘yung post ko. Hindi ko inaalis sa mga [ABS-CBN] bosses na masaktan sila, kaya I’m really sorry for that. Ti-nake down ko naman ‘yung post na ‘yun,” he stated.

The actor humbly acknowledged his mistake and is still looking forward to projects with the network.

“Naisip ko na ‘ay baka dibdibin nila ‘to.’ Naisip ko na, ‘ay nagpapatawa lang naman ako at nagpapa-cute lang naman ako’ so I’m hoping na soon maka-trabaho ako sa ABS-CBN,” he said.

He said that the reaction of ABS-CBN was completely valid and he hoped that his issues with the network be over soon. He explained that he is no longer under the contract of Star Music. He said that he enjoys being a freelancer artist but is hoping to work with ABS-CBN and also with GMA network.

“I’m hoping to still work with ABS-CBN soon and also with GMA. Actually, nag-e-enjoy ako ng freelance. Kahit saan puwede ako. But I hope to work with both (networks) soon,” Gibbs said.

In January 2018, Gibbs released a new digital album called Nagbabalik which includes his single “Get It On, Oh Girl” featuring Andrew E. and many more under GMA Records and is available on Spotify and other digital stores nationwide. He is now preparing for his upcoming movie Mang Jose from VIVA Films where he will play the character of Mang Jose, who is a superhero for rent.
