Amid the alarming behavior of Filipinos inclined to patronize foreign-made shows like K-Dramas as opposed to the local ones, Dingdong Dantes, Kapuso Primetime King, rather thought of it as an opportunity to motivate, to improve the creative side of the Philippine television.
In The Howie Severino Podcast‘s latest episode, the actor shared his insights regarding Korean Drama, “I’d rather see them as an inspiration because we really have to learn from best practices of people or performers around us.
“If they are successful, it means that they maybe doing something right. And more than looking at them and seeing them as competitors — kasi siyempre I really think that we have a very, very huge space to perform. Napakalawak ng espasyo para magkaroon ng kompetisyon sa ganitong larangan.
“Ano ba ‘yung culture? Ano ba ‘yung processes? Bakit nagiging very, very successful and outcome nila at ‘yung kanilang output?” Dingdong said.
He also thought one factor, which he learned from his friends.
“”Ang sabi nila e, matindi kasi ‘yung suporta ng gobyerno sa kanila, kaya talagang buhos sila sa effort. Buhos sila sa pera, sa resources sa pag-produce ng mga ganito.”
From great cinematography, well-written dialogues, musical scores, perfect casting to astounding performances, Korean Dramas are big hits and continue to flourish.
Dingdong Dantes saw it as a window to see what Filipino dramas lack and what needs to improve.
It is his vision that the Filipinos would see it as an opportunity, an inspiration rather than a threat.
Dingdong Dantes plays the lead role in the Philippine adaptation of Descendants of the Sun.
The Korean series bagged the award for the Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year at the 15th Seoul International Drama Awards.
