Star Cinema’s first film debut on GMA Network falls short in ratings and fails to defeat its ABS-CBN’s counterpart program ‘FPJ: Da King’ on TV5.

The first Star Cinema film that aired on GMA Network fell short and failed to defeat its ABS-CBN counterpart FPJ: Da King in TV rating.

A week after the announcement of its historic partnership with ABS-CBN that allowed the Network to air Star Cinema movies, GMA Network aired its first offering under the said agreement. The blockbuster film–It Takes A Man and A Woman, was GMA Blockbusters’ opening salvo. It aired on Sunday, April 10.

It Takes A Man and A Woman starred box-office giants, Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz. The Cathy Garcia-Molina film grossed more than PhP380 million at the global box office.

The 2013 film is a collaborative production between ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema and Viva Films. It served as the third and final installment of the film trilogy that started with 2008’s A Very Special Love, and 2009’s You Changed My Life in A Moment.

Based on AGB Nielsen’s National Urban TV Measurement (NUTAM) People data, It Takes A Man and A Woman, rated 3.9%, which means that it fell short to halt the leadership of ABS-CBN’s FPJ: Da King as the rating of the 2:00-4:00 pm time slot. Both shows air after their respective network’s Sunday noontime musical variety show (ASAP Natin ‘To for ABS-CBN and All-Out-Sundays for GMA Network).

Going head-to-head with It Takes A Man and A Woman, was a restored version of the 1983 film, Umpisahan Mo, Tatapusin Ko. According to AGB Nielsen, the Fernando Poe Jr. Film rated higher with 4.1%. It’s worth noting that the Kapamilya movie block started winning on its timeslot, when TV5 started re-aring the program three weeks ago.

The landmark partnership between ABS-CBN and GMA Network, which was previously deemed impossible, is slated to bring more Star Cinema movies to the Kapuso Network.

Among those announced to air are blockbuster movies like Hello Love, Goodbye (2019), My Ex and Whys (2017), No Other Woman (2011), Suddenly It’s Magic (2012), Isa Pa…With Feelings (2019), Feng Shui (2004), and Alone/Together (2019), among many others.
