President-Elect Duterte catcalled GMA News journalist Mariz Umali in a press conference. Duterte whistled and even sang “Malayo ang tingin’ to the Kapuso reporter and stopped when some of the audience shouted “Married na ‘yan.” This was from the Mayor who ordained the Women Development Code in Davao City (first in the country) that protects women from any form of harassment.
We can say that Rodrigo Duterte is one of the well-loved personality today in our nation but any type of cat-calling is never cool, even if it was just a joke. We love the president but what’s wrong is wrong. We hope he can still do something about it since it’s not really acceptable
Sadly, almost everyone laugh at it! The reaction of the people around is unbelievable. Is this how we, as a society, culturally conditioned and molded? Sadly, some people will still keep on laughing off such abuses not until they themselves have experienced it.
For all the apologists, please help our new president to lead by example. We all could learn something from this. Just digest this issue.
