Angie Ferro, a distinguished figure in the world of Philippine cinema, renowned for her remarkable portrayal of Lola Igna in the critically acclaimed 2019 film, has passed away at the age of 86. This news was confirmed by her family on Thursday.
Lorelie Futol, Ferro’s granddaughter, relayed the sad news to ABS-CBN News, revealing that the veteran actress breathed her last at 4:56 p.m. The precise cause of her passing has not yet been unveiled.
As of now, the details concerning the funeral arrangements and wake of Angie Ferro have not been disclosed by her family.
In mid-2022, Ferro was hospitalized following a minor accident, as per a report by Sine Olivia Pilipinas, a independent film production company. Prior to this incident, she had encountered multiple strokes.
Ferro earned immense praise for her portrayal of the titular character in “Lola Igna,” a performance that led her to secure the coveted Best Actress award at the 2019 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino. Moreover, she received a nomination for the Gawad Urian Best Actress award for her captivating portrayal in the same role.
Born on August 4, 1937, in Baleno, Masbate, Angie Ferro etched her name into the annals of Philippine cinema through her notable roles in the 1978 film “Pagputi ng Uwak… Pag-itim ng Tagak” and the 2004 movie “Ebolusyon ng Isang Pamilyang Pilipino.”
Her final cinematic endeavor was the horror film “Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan,” where she embodied the titular role alongside Joshua Garcia, who portrayed her onscreen grandson.
Unfortunately, due to health-related challenges, she was unable to grace the film’s premiere in May 2023, as confirmed by the film’s producers.
