Kapamilya host Bianca Gonzalez shared her thoughts about the 31st anniversary of the People Power Revolution at the EDSA Shrine last February 25.
Gonzalez wrote on her Twitter that not all who attended the successful event were pro-yellow or “Dilawan,” a term coined by Duterte supporters to describe a person who supports Liberal Party.
She wrote, “Hindi lahat ng nakikiisa sa diwa ng EDSA ay dilawan. Salamat sa mga nauna sa atin sa paglaban para sa kalayaan.”
The People Power Revolution or simply EDSA 1 was a historic and a peaceful event in that took place at EDSA in 1986.
International medias also described it as “the revolution that surprised the world” for being so peaceful.
If not with EDSA 1, it will be impossible for people to express their disapproval to our government without getting caught, raped, tortured or killed.
Even the current president, Rodrigo Duterte, described EDSA 1 as an event that belongs to the Filipino.
In his speech delivered by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea at EDSA’s 31st anniversary celebration, Duterte said the spirit of the bloodless revolution belongs to the people who believe in freedom and democracy.
“Indeed, the spirit of EDSA does not belong to one sector or one group of people, but to all Filipinos who believe in freedom and a democratic way of life,” he said.
He also added, “EDSA was not just a cry against years of abuse and corruption of governmental power. More importantly, it was a demonstration of the power that the united citizenry could muster.”
