Mikee Quintos speaks out on celebrities in politics

Actress and ‘Lutong Bahay’ host Mikee Quintos recently weighed in on the debate surrounding celebrities entering politics, asserting that people should avoid outright judgments about whether stars have a place in government.

On November 7, during an appearance on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,’ Boy Abunda touched on Quintos’ background, mentioning that several members of her family are involved in politics. He then asked if she saw herself following the same path.

“Right now, Tito Boy, hindi talaga. I don’t see myself going there,” Quintos responded. “Pero ang tingin ko po kasi, ang pag-aartista at ang pulitiko, ang pinaka-common thing diyan, ‘yung service sa tao.” She explained that both acting and politics share the mission of serving others, albeit in different forms.

When asked about the opinion that celebrities shouldn’t enter politics, Quintos responded, “‘Wag tayong magsalita ng tapos.” She agreed with Abunda’s view that the statement is discriminatory, emphasizing that both actors and politicians can serve the public if their intentions are sincere.

“’Yung mga artista, gusto natin nagpapasaya, nagpapatawa ng mga tao. Service pa rin siya though,” she noted. “Feeling ko, as long as ‘yung hearts nila nasa tamang place, walang masama.”

Quintos was also asked if she would support her boyfriend, Paul Salas, if he ever expressed a desire to run for office. Quintos admitted that, if she had a choice, she would prefer he not enter politics. However, she assured that she would back him wholeheartedly if it were something he was truly passionate about.
