Rapper-comedian Andrew E. has finally spoken about the ongoing debate regarding who truly deserves the title of ‘King of Rap’ in the Philippines.
Appearing on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda’ on Monday, November 18, Andrew E. addressed the long-standing issue, which involves him, the late Francis Magalona, and Gloc-9.
When asked directly about his thoughts on the title, Andrew E. said, “Ang sabi ni Francis M., kaming dalawa raw, e. So, let it be.”
The discussion on who holds the rightful title was reignited after a publication referred to Gloc-9 as the ‘King of Pinoy Rap.’ The statement stirred reactions online, leading Andrew E.’s label, Dongalo Wreckords, to publish an art card outlining the “metrics” required to earn the title.
Arkin Magalona, son of the late “Master Rapper” Francis Magalona, also joined the conversation, offering his perspective on the matter.
“Wala sa metrics ang pagiging ‘king.’ Kung buhay pa tatay ko, siya pa mismo ang magsasabi niyan,” Arkin wrote in a social media post.
He continued, “Kusa ka magiging ‘king’ pag tinuring ka na ng mga tao bilang hari. Para sa fellow artists diyan—old heads and new wave—ilabas niyo lang ang mga gusto niyo ipakita sa mundo. Maraming mga nag-aabang at mag-aabang pa sa mga bago niyong gawa, trust me.”
