Actor Enrique Gil, known for his family-oriented values, opened up about his decision to almost leave showbiz during the pandemic.
Speaking in Bisaya on Melai Cantiveros’ Visayan talk show ‘Kuan on One’ (KOO), Enrique shared how his priorities shifted during that period, leading him to consider stepping away from the limelight.
“Na-miss nako ang time with my family, akong mga igsoon (kapatid),” the Cebuano actor told Melai, explaining that his longing to reconnect with his loved ones was a key factor in his decision.
Enrique reflected on how the pandemic gave him time to reevaluate his career and life.
“Na-realize ko na life is more than just fame, acting, showbiz, and money. All of this means a lot to me, but it’s not everything. Showbiz is a part of my life, but it’s not my whole life,” he said.
The actor admitted that while he appreciated the fame and support from fans, he wanted to focus on his personal happiness and his relationship with his family.
“I told my Mama, ‘Sige, I’ll come back, but I’ll make sure na it’s not the same as before. Right now, you’re getting older. I want to spend more time at home,’” Enrique shared.
With a refreshed perspective, Enrique has ventured into film producing. His debut project, ‘I Am Not Big Bird’ (IANBB), is a comedy film, and he is also exploring the possibility of producing horror and action films.
One of his recent pitches to ABS-CBN COO Cory Vidanes has already been approved, and shooting for the project is set to begin in 2025.
Enrique emphasized the importance of balance in life and finding joy in what he does:
“Para kang robot na paulit-ulit, nawawala ‘yung magic, ‘yung inspiration mo sa mga projects,” he admitted. “The most important thing is balance in life. If there’s too much of one thing, it’s not good for your mental health, physical health, and heart.”
The actor is set to co-produce and star in a teleserye with ABS-CBN in March 2025. Describing the concept, he said it will be an action-comedy with a touch of romance, likening it to the style of Ryan Reynolds.
Enrique also hinted at a possible collaboration with Liza Soberano.
“Yes, she is interested, but she’s in LA right now. So, who knows, maybe next year. Sana, kung may time,” he shared.
Enrique stars in ‘Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital’ (SF: TKH), an official entry to the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). The movie will be released on December 25, bringing another exciting addition to his career.
