After a memorable and emotional showing at the Miss Universe Philippines 2025 coronation night, Kapuso actress and beauty queen Winwyn Marquez confirmed that this would be her last pageant.
“This is my last. Sure na ’yon,” she said in a video clip shared after the event held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on May 2, where she was named first runner-up to Quezon Province’s Ahtisa Manalo.
Winwyn, who proudly joined the pageant as a mother, emphasized her fulfillment despite not winning the crown. “Who would’ve thought? Now, a mother is first runner-up in Miss Universe Philippines? That’s already a good feat,” she said, beaming with pride.
In her heartfelt Instagram post following the event, Winwyn reflected on her journey, calling it more than just a bid for a crown. “This was never just about a crown for me… I’ve always hoped to show that becoming a mom doesn’t mean your dreams have to stop. It can be the beginning of something new, something even more meaningful,” she wrote.
She spoke candidly about facing self-doubt throughout the competition. “There were days I felt strong, and days when nerves and doubts hit me hard… As a mom, people expect us to always be tough, but I’ve learned that it’s just as important to be kind to ourselves, too.”
Winwyn also addressed criticism about mothers joining pageants, stressing that being a parent doesn’t disqualify someone from dreaming big. “We are four moms [in this year’s competition], and I think we should respect that. If a mom has what it takes to be Miss Universe Philippines, why not?”
Known as the “Latina Slayer” after winning the Reina Hispanoamericana title in 2017, Winwyn’s return to the pageant stage inspired many—especially mothers. She was also backed by her cousin, Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee, whose team handled Winwyn’s official materials during the competition.
“I took the crown of courage — of standing tall and speaking my truth, showing that you can be both devoted and driven… That, for me, is already a victory,” Winwyn said.
With her pageant chapter now closed, Winwyn looks forward to spending quality time with her family, saying, “I’ve done my job. I lived a dream already. Now it’s time to give back.”
