Roderick Paulate denies “sermon” on Vice Ganda, marks big-screen comeback with ‘Mudrasta’

Veteran comedian Roderick Paulate has debunked online rumors claiming he scolded Vice Ganda or criticized the latter’s brand of comedy.

Speaking at the premiere night of his comeback film ‘Mudrasta, ang Beking Ina’, Paulate stressed that the viral story was pure fabrication.

“Ni wala nga raw nagtanong sa akin kung ano ang advise ko kay Vice. Wala raw naging ganong topic,” he said, adding that the issue surfaced after the press conference for his film.

The actor also laughed off claims that he and Vice once had a “complicated” history. “Kailan? Ni hindi nga raw kami nagkakasama ni Vice kaya paanong naging masalimuot?” he pointed out.

Far from criticizing the ‘Unkabogable Star,’ Paulate said he has always acknowledged Vice’s success. “Kapag tinatanong ako tungkol kay Ganda, sinasabi kong panahon ngayon ni Vice,” he explained. “Ayaw yata ng iba na maganda ang sagot ko. Gusto raw yata nila ay laging may trouble.”

Paulate admitted that while his comedic era and Vice’s brand of humor are different, he respects how the younger comedian defines today’s comedy landscape.

The controversy didn’t overshadow Paulate’s much-anticipated return to the big screen. In ‘Mudrasta, ang Beking Ina’, he plays Victor “Beki” Labrador, a flamboyant ex-lover who re-enters his former flame’s life after inheriting half of his estate. The story follows Beki’s chaotic yet heartfelt attempt to reconnect with a family he once left behind.

At the film’s media conference, Paulate once again displayed his signature wit and comedic timing, delighting audiences alongside co-star Tonton Gutierrez. Their effortless banter drew laughs, reminding fans why Paulate remains one of the country’s most beloved comedy icons.
