Robin Padilla admits he often blocks wife Mariel Rodriguez during fights

Celebrity couple Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla have been together for 15 years — and according to them, one secret to their lasting marriage is how they’ve learned to handle their differences, even if that sometimes includes blocking each other on social media.

In their guest appearance on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda’ on Tuesday, October 28, the senator revealed that frequent arguments actually strengthened their bond.

“Dun lumalalim, e, kasi dun mo nakikita kung gaano mo kamahal. Minsan umaabot du’n sa ‘Ayoko na!’ Ganun din siya,” Robin shared, adding that their disagreements often lead to deeper understanding.

He admitted that their generational gap has played a big role in their conflicts.

“Yung generation nila, masyadong ganun, kinumpronta ka, e. Hindi ako sanay. Sanay ako sa mga martyr, siya hindi, e,” Robin said, referring to Mariel’s more confrontational nature compared to his calm, old-fashioned style.

But out of love, Robin said he is the one who usually adjusts.

“Dahil mahal ko siya, ako na ang nag-a-adjust,” he said.

Mariel, however, playfully exposed one of Robin’s habits that irritates her the most — blocking her online whenever they fight.

“Isa ’yan sa mga ugali niya na nakakainis. Binablock niya ako. Kaya ako, para gumanti, iba-block ko rin siya!” Mariel laughed.

Aside from his tendency to block her, Robin also goes on “hunger strike” during arguments.

“Kapag nag-aaway kami, hindi siya kakain kahit anong suyo ko,” Mariel revealed.

Despite their quarrels, they agreed on one rule: no shouting inside the house.

“Bawal sa ’kin ’yung ganun, ayoko, because ayoko na magkaroon ng experience ’yung mga anak ko na nagsisigawan sa bahay. Ayoko ng ganun, so hindi kami ganun,” Mariel said.

Still, their text messages apparently reveal how intense things can get.

“Hindi man kami nagsisigawan, damang-dama mo sa messages — sa mga exclamation point at capital letters!” she quipped.

According to Mariel, she’s usually the first to make peace. Robin, meanwhile, admitted that after hiding in his own house to cool off, Mariel would send him food — and that’s when he softens up.

“Pagkatapos niyang magpadala ng pagkain, lalambingin ko siya, tapos bati na ulit kami,” Robin said with a grin.

After more than a decade together, the couple said they’ve realized they simply can’t live without each other.

“Ngayon ko lang na-realize kung gaano ako ka-dependent kay Robin,” Mariel confessed.

For Robin and Mariel, love may come with blocking, hunger strikes, and capital letters — but it’s also built on patience, respect, and a shared promise to never raise their voices, even when tempers do.
