Former Miss Universe Catriona Gray has sparked wide-ranging reactions online after calling for improved governance, transparency, and disaster preparedness in the wake of powerful typhoons, earthquakes, and flooding that recently battered the Philippines.

In an Instagram post, the beauty queen voiced deep concern over the devastation faced by countless communities across the country, emphasizing the need for systemic reforms and responsible use of public funds.
“So many homes and lives devastated by the recent typhoons, earth quakes and floods sa ating bansa. The storms will always come but we can be better prepared, systems put into place to mediate or reduce the affects,” she wrote.
Catriona went on to express hopes that government resources would be used intentionally to safeguard Filipino lives.
“How I pray that our public funds will be used with transparency and intention to protect the livelihood, safety and essential human needs of the Filipino people. How I pray that we would hold our government accountable to how they exploit the environment to the consequence of increased risk for communities.”
Gray also highlighted her frustration over how Filipinos are often praised for their resilience instead of receiving long-term, structural solutions.
“How I pray we won’t just be glorified for being resilient when our nation is merely surviving. We deserve so much better.”
She urged the public not to normalize inadequate governance.
“I pray we’ll never settle in a place of ‘ganun talaga eh,’ wag tayo masanay. Who we put in leadership need to be held accountable to the responsibility of protecting and uplifting the lives of the nation.”
Catriona encouraged her followers to amplify information about communities that remain in need of urgent assistance.
“Many communities are still cut off from fresh drinking water, submerged under water or are in need of basic needs. Kindly help me share them below sa comments so we can get awareness and relief out to them.”
She also commended frontline groups such as Philippine Red Cross and Angat Buhay for their ongoing relief operations.
As expected, Gray’s post drew diverse reactions. Many netizens thanked her for using her platform to advocate for better governance, praising her courage and consistency.
Others questioned her statement, pointing out that she has also supported certain government projects and should be fair in her criticisms.
Despite the mixed feedback, supporters emphasized that Catriona has long been vocal about social issues. In fact, she was among the public figures who joined the Trillion Peso March in September 2025, calling for transparency in government spending.
This is not the first time Catriona Gray has urged better leadership and accountability. Her recent post further reinforces her stance as one of the country’s most prominent advocates for responsible governance, disaster preparedness, and community welfare.
