Kapuso actress and TV host Faith Da Silva candidly admitted that she was afraid to join anti-corruption rallies—but ultimately chose to overcome her fears for what she believed was a greater cause.
In her guesting on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda’, the ‘Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre’ star revealed that participating in the protest marked a turning point for her, as it was the first time she openly spoke out and took a public stand.
“Natakot din talaga ako kasi ito ’yung first rally ever na nag-speak out and voice out ako and I was there,” Faith said.
She shared that one of her biggest concerns was the possibility of losing work opportunities after joining demonstrations against officials linked to allegedly anomalous flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“Siyempre noong una natatakot ako kasi ’yung mga raket, ’yung mga gigs,” she admitted, adding that many projects are backed by public officials. “Kaya ang sabi ko, ‘Ay kapag nakita nilang nandito ako baka hindi na ako kuhanin.’”
Despite these fears, Faith said she realized that financial security meant little if ordinary Filipinos continued to suffer.
“Pero for a greater cause. I mean, aanuhin ko ’yung kinikita ko na pera na ’yun, kung ’yung mga mamamayan naman doon ay nag-struggle because of that?” she explained.
Beyond losing gigs, the actress also acknowledged concerns about her personal safety during rallies, noting that fear of violence often discourages people from participating.
“‘Yung takot din sa safety. And I think ’yun din ’yung iniisip ng karamihan… ‘Ah hindi na lang ako pupunta kasi baka magkagulo pa,’” she said. “Pero at this point, kailangan ’yung tapang natin mas mataas siya kaysa roon sa comfort na nararamdaman natin.”
Faith was among the celebrities who joined protests in September, including mass actions calling attention to corruption issues tied to flood control projects now under investigation in Congress and the Senate.
