Chef Jeremy Favia fires back at Kitkat over allegedly “expired” pasalubong, defends his mother

A family dispute spilled into public view after celebrity chef Jeremy Favia called out comedienne-host Kitkat over a social media post questioning the safety of a pasalubong allegedly given by her mother-in-law.

The issue began with an Instagram Story posted by Kitkat, where she complained about a food item she claimed was a pasalubong from China. In the now-viral post, Kitkat suggested that the product appeared to be expired based on a date printed on the packaging, expressing concern especially because her family has a baby.

Her post read, in part: “So may pasalubong kami from China (daw)… pagkita ko ngayon Dec 2025 ang expiration! Huy! Baka nakakalimutan mo may baby kami… ano ba ’yan!”

Kitkat added that she used an AI translation tool, which allegedly interpreted the date “2025/12/26” as an expiration or “best before” date, leading her to conclude that the item was already expired.

The post eventually reached Jeremy, who is Kitkat’s brother-in-law and the brother of her husband, Walby Favia. In a strongly worded Facebook post on February 4, Jeremy publicly rebuked Kitkat and clarified that the date being referred to was not an expiration date but a manufacturing or production date—common in Chinese packaging.

“Pangalanan mo kasi SORAYA BAÑAS a.k.a. ‘Kitkat’,” Jeremy wrote.

“Nanay namin ’yan ni kuya Walby. Na lola ng anak mo. Sana nag-fact check ka muna para makita mo na manufacturing date ’yan.”

Jeremy emphasized that their mother, whom he said prioritized buying pasalubong for her grandchild over purchasing items for herself, would never do anything that could endanger her own apo.

“HINDI gagawa ang mama ng ikapapahamak ng apo niya,” he stressed, adding that everyone in their group tour bought the same item, which was offered by their tour guide.

He also accused Kitkat of airing family matters publicly without verification.

“This is not the first time na pinahiya mo si mama. Enough is enough. You do this for clout. I do this for MAMA,” he said.

Jeremy’s post drew reactions from netizens and even family members. A comment from someone identified as Isabel Favia read, “You’re so real for this… facts were ignored, boundaries have always been crossed. This was long overdue.”

Comedian Inah Evans also chimed in, saying she felt secondhand embarrassment over the situation.

Kitkat, however, did not remain silent. Through a series of Instagram Stories, she appeared to respond to Jeremy’s statements, maintaining that she consulted ChatGPT and that the item was indeed expired because there were no other words accompanying the date on the packaging.

“Chinat GPT ko nga, expired daw talaga,” she said in one post.

She also addressed remarks allegedly thrown at her, brushing off criticisms and saying she was unfazed by the backlash.

As of this writing, the back-and-forth between the two has fueled online debate, with netizens divided over whether Kitkat’s original post was a valid concern or an unfair public shaming of a family member. Neither camp has issued a final statement indicating any reconciliation, as the issue continues to circulate on social media.
