Broadcast journalist Karen Davila details the success story of Concha Lapid, one of the many residents of Sto. Tomas, Pampanga who make a living out of manufacturing caskets in “My Puhunan” tomorrow (October 29).

Casket manufacturer Concha Lapid in MY PUHUNANBefore getting into the casket-making industry, Concha had been working as a seamstress and her husband Bonifacio as a jeepney driver. Still, the hardworking couple could barely provide for their five kids.

Determined to make ends meet, Concha and her husband Bonifacio eventually entered the casket manufacturing industry in their town, also known as the “Kabaong Capital of the Philippines.” They used an initial capital of P40,000 to produce caskets, which they sold in Manila.

Now, Concha earns P80,000 to P100,000 a month from what she calls “hanap-patay,” a play on the word “hanapbuhay.”

To commemorate her husband, who passed away last year, Concha helps a childhood friend jumpstart her own business in “My Puhunan.”

Don’t miss “My Puhunan” this Wednesday (Oct 29), 4:30 PM on ABS-CBN. For updates, follow @mypuhunan on Twitter or like www.facebook.com/MyPuhunan and www.facebook.com/MutyaNgMasa.
