In a joint statement by Star Cinema and Angel Locsin today, it was announced that Angel Locsin will no longer play the role of Darna. It was revealed that Angel Locsin has a disc bulge that developed while she was training for the role.
Angel trained for the role of Darna for the past two years. That’s why it was a tearful Angel who showed up for the conference. She wanted the role but her back problem hinders her from doing stunts which are integral for the role of a heroine like Darna.
Angel was diagnosed with the disc bulge when she was confined at the hospital in August because her back felt terribly painful.
In a report by Mario Dumawal on Star Patrol, Dr. Ronald Pidlaoan at St. Luke’s Hospital explained Angel’s diagnosis. He said that the mild bulge is hitting and irritating the nerve attached to her spine. He said the worst case scenario is that she cannot use her legs anymore.
But according to Dr. Pidlaoan, the disc bulge is treatable and recovery from surgery could take 6 to 8 months.
Angel Locsin is currently undergoing treatment and physical therapy for her health problem.
But ABS_CBN is assuring fans that Angel will see her soon in a movie with Vilma Santos which she is still currently shooting. ABS-CBN said that Angel will finish the movie which is directed by Joyce Bernal.
ABS-CBN expressed their gratitude and admiration for Angel Locsin’s dedication to her craft and her work.
Earlier this week, a lot of speculations have cropped up that Liza Soberano might play the role of Darna in the remake of the film. These were fueled by the clamor of Liza Soberano fans who have been actively talking about the matter in social media sites.
Does this mean that it will be Liza Soberano who will replace Angel Locsin as Darna in the latest remake of the film?
Whoever will take the role of Darna will be lucky to do so. Darna is a franchise and can be expanded to several films, especially if the actress who plays it has drawing power at the box office.
Angel Locsin fans should not be disheartened. This is not the end of her career. She is a very talented and multi-faceted actress. As soon as her back problem is solved, we are pretty sure there will still be more work coming to her.
