Jake Cuenca recently posted on Instagram that he thinks Sarah Lahbati will fit the role of “Darna” to a T, just like Angel Locsin.
He posted a picture of him in a superhero costume, side by side with Sarah with the caption: “My opinion? @sarahlahbati if not angel locsin should be Darna…but that’s just my opinion…”. He also tagged Richard, Raymond and Ruffa Gutierrez in his post.
Jake and Sarah had a dance number at “ASAP 20” on Sunday, January 10, 2016. With a superhero theme, Sarah emerged on stage with a silver cape, knee-high boots, and a stylized costume that’s similar to Darna’s. She was hot and sexy which probably gave Jake the idea that Sarah could very well be the next Darna.
The role of Darna is one of the most-coveted in Philippine showbiz. The iconic Mars Ravelo heroine has been played by a lot of popular actresses in the past. Gina Pareño, Vilma Santos, Nanette Medved, and Anjanette Abayari all took turns playing the part.
Angel Locsin brought the hero back to life in the TV series for GMA Network in 2005. She was preparing for the big screen version of “Darna” under ABS-CBN and Star Cinema, but backed out of the project due to a spinal injury. Since then, a lot of names have been floated as to who will play the superhero. Nadine Lustre, Liza Soberano, Jessy Mendiola, and Kathryn Bernardo have all been suggested by Kapamilya fans to replace Angel in the “Darna” movie.
There’s no official statement yet from ABS-CBN and Star Cinema as to who will fly as Darna on the big screen. The list of potential candidates is getting longer. With Jake’s opinion about Sarah, movie producers might as well add her to the list.
