Talk about current local actors and Coco Martin will always come to mind. He has shown his acting skills over time and now plays the challenging lead of ABS-CBN’s action drama series “Ang Probinsiyano.”
Martin had a humble beginning. He started his showbiz career under ABS-CBN’s Star Magic and was part of the Star Circle batch 9 where he was billed under his real name Rodel Nacianceno. His first movie appearance was a cameo in the 2001 movie “Luv Text” before venturing into independent movies.
After staying with the Kapamilya network for several years, Martin decided to test the waters at GMA Network in 2007. While at the Kapuso station, he had small roles on several shows and was once a sidekick to Polo Ravales on the daily noontime soap of the Sex Bomb Dancers “Daisy Siete.” Martin got his first Gawad Urian Award trophy as Best Supporting Actor for the indie film “Jay” starring Baron Geisler.
Looking back from where he began in a span of over 15 years in the entertainment industry, Martin is now at the pinnacle of his career in showbiz. From an insignificant sidekick role to the most loved TV actor on his own action drama series “Ang Probinsiyano”, Martin has always maintained his humble disposition.
Ravales and Martin enjoyed the opportunity of working together again in “Ang Probinsiyano” where the latter plays the lead role while the former got a supporting role as Brad, a member of a notorious gang involved in various criminal activities.
Ravales is excited to work again with Martin and even posted a photo of them together on the set of “Ang Probinsiyano”. He captioned his post with “It was nice to see u again..di ka nagbago..u deserve everything (It was nice to see you again, you did not change. You deserve everything).”
Martin is a living testament that the wheel of fate keeps on turning. One day, you are at the lowest point and the next day, you are at the peak. In spite of his tremendous success on TV, Martin is still the same old Rodel Nacianceno.
