Kapamilya exec reacts to ‘Sangre vs Sang’gre’ debate

  • “Encantadia” writer and director recently suspected of igniting a fanwar between Encantadiks and “La Luna Sangre” fans die to their malicious social media posts.
  • The two apparently claimed that the word ‘sangre’ in “La Luna Sangre” is a ripoff of “Encantadia’s” ‘sang’gre.’
  • Star Cinema executive Roxy Liquigan then defended the hit primetime show and asked if the defunct Kapuso fantaserye was the first one that used the word ‘sangre.’
  • In his next tweet, the Kapamilya boss hinted that ‘sangre’ is a Spanish word.

It seems like the virtual war between Encantadiks and SANGREs is still ongoing.

The silent “war“ started when ABS-CBN announced “La Luna Sangre” (“The Blood Moon”) as the title for KathNiel’s newest teleserye.

Although the series was an instant hit to Filipinos across the Philippines — as it effortlessly beat its rival program on its pilot week — some people had also expressed their deprecation over “La Luna Sangre”.

Recently, “Encantadia” writer Suzette Doctolero reposted a tweet of a fan account of “La Luna Sangre” and said, “Huwat?? Pirena, Danaya, Amihan, Alena! Nagtutweet kayo???”

She then added more fuel to the fire with her follow-up tweet: “From the Sanggre sisters (kaka txt lang sa akin): di daw sila nagtutweet. Ever! So may… posers!”

On the other hand, the Kapuso show’s director Mark Reyes posted on his Instagram account a stitched photos of the 2005 and 2016 casts of “Encantadia” with the texts that say, “Sang’gre since 2006[.] Huwag nga kayo!” He also caption the photo: “Excuse us? #wewerefirstduh #encantadia #encantadialegacy”

The fantaserye’s two key people were obviously addressing their posts to “La Luna Sangre” for its word, slightly similar to “Encantadia’s” ‘sang’gre.’ And although they sound a bit similar, these two words have different meanings. Kapamilya’s ‘Sangre’ means ‘blood’ in Spansih while the Kapuso’s ‘sang’gre’ is a term used to refer to a Diwata of royal blood in “Encantadia”.

The controversial posts have irked a lot of netizens; but, one particular Kapamilya boss stood up to defend “La Luna Sangre”. On Twitter, Star Cinema executive Roxy Liquigan posted, “Kayo nauna sa word na Sangre? hihihihihi #Duh.” He then continued, “Ayaw ng mga taga Spain. hihihihi #Duh.”

“La Luna Sangre” might be a bit controversial in the eyes of some bigoted Kapuso viewers, but the fantaserye has proven its supremacy in the ratings game. Both Kantar Media and AGB Nielsen have agreed that “La Luna Sangre” dominated the ratings game during its pilot week.

The series got a rating of 11.5% versus rival’s 8.7%, based on AGB NUTAM People Ratings and a rating of 33.9% against rival’s 13.8% according to Kantar Media.

Pilot rating of “La Luna Sangre”, dated June [19], based on Kantar Media
Meanwhile, the director and the writer of “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’s” then-rival show have yet to air their responses.
