It’s always fun to hear the stories of how celebrity couples met, whether it was at an awards show, while on tour or through mutual friends. You might be shocked to find out which one of your favorite actors met his love while inside a condominium’s elevator.
But, as technology becomes a bigger influence in our lives every single day, it’s not surprising that lots of celebrity couples are actually starting to meet through social media.
Twitter, Facebook, Instagram – nothing is off limits! To be honest, some of these couples who got each other’s attention through a virtual reality before meeting face-to-face have the most adorable love stories ever.
For this week’s On My Radar, we’ve rounded up eight of the celebrities, both local and foreign artists who may have tried dating, had a relationship, broken up or not, who met the loves of their lives on social media and didn’t think twice about it!

Angel Locsin and Phil Younghusband
Azkal’s good looking football star player Phil Younghusband really caught everyone’s interest and attention when he made the netizens’ gush after inviting the Kapamilya actress Angel Locsin for Valentine’s Day. It was February 10, 2010 when Phil made the Twitterworld kilig when he asked Angel for a date thru his tweet.
It was a simple tweet which made everyone go “Awww…” Phil tweeted Angel with: “Hi, Angel! This is Phil. How are you? I was just wondering if you are free for Valentine’s day?”
After a few minutes, Angel replied with a joke, “Twitterworld, kalma!”
Then she followed it up with: “Hi, this is Angel. Congrats on your win last night! Thanks for the invite but I have work on Valentine’s. Let’s try another day?”
Some people did not believe with Phil’s intention on Angel. Others would say that it was all just a “bet,” to which Philippine Azkal striker vehemently denied.
After dating for quite sometime, Angel and Phil officially became a couple on May 27, 2012.
“We’re officially together. We’re girlfriend and boyfriend. I’ve always said we fall more and moe in love with each other. And I think love and happiness are real words that could describe our relationship,” said Angel during happier times.
However, October of 2013, after almost a year in a relationship, the two parted ways. It was also on Twitter that Angel has confirmed their break up. From Angel’s Twitter account, this was her official statement:
“Sa mga naglalabasang balita kung saan na-quote po na nag pa-interview ako. Hindi po ito totoo. Wala pa po akong nakakausap about the issue dahil sa totoo lang po, hindi ko pa ho kayang kumausap ng kahit sino sa press at nag si-sink in pa lang po samin ngaon ang lahat ng ito.”
“Sa lahat po ng nagtatanong kung totoo bang hiwalay na kami ni Phil, Totoo po.”
“Sana po maintindihan nyo kung hindi na po namin sasabihin ang dahilan, pero maayos po kaming naghiwalay at mutual decision po ito.”
“Pasensiya na po kung hindi po kami makasagot agad tungkol sa status n gaming relasyon. Lalong-lalo nap o sa mga sumuporta sa aming dalawa. Hindi po namin kayo binalewala…mahirap lang po talaga kung nasa ganitong sitwasyon.”
“Nagulat na lang po kami na naunahan na kami ng balita bago pa man kami makapagusap uli. Salamat pos a lahat ng sumubaybay at sumuporta sa journey namin ni Phil lalo na ho ditto sa Twitter. Hinding-hinfi po namin malilimutan.”
Angel is reportedly now going steady with movie producer Neil Arce.
Sunshine Cruz and Macky Mathay
Sunshine Cruz really caught Ismael “Macky” Mathay’s eye through Instagram where she posts stunning photos of herself!
According to Macky, he made his first move on Instagram where he sent her a message inviting her out. It started off as a flirtatious relationship over the social media app which then turned into a full-fledged romance. Macky is actress Ara Mina’s youngest half brother. After several months of courtship, Sunshine had given him a yes on September 18, 2016.
Tongues wagged when a netizen captured an image of the two holding hands while walking in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. They’ve become more open with their relationship lately. Even Sunshine’s kids from her marriage with actor Cesar Montano have accepted the relationship. The two are still going strong as a couple.
Sam Milby and Mari Jasmine
It was also on the microblogging platform Twitter that Kapamilya singer-actor Sam Milby met the Fil-British model Mari Jasmine. It was in year 2015 that Sam had followed the Twitter account of Mari Jasmine. At the time, Mari Jasmine really had no idea who Sam Milby was.
“It’s too early. I don’t want to share too much kasi masyadong maaga pa. But I’m inspired naman. I don’t think I would pursue a girl kung wala akong nakikitang future with her,” Sam said in an interview.
After Sam and former girlfriend, actress Anne Curtis went on their separate ways, Mari Jasmine is Sam’s next relationship.
They officially became a couple in July 2016. Until now, Sam and Mari Jasmine are going strong as a couple. They may not be that expressive but they would like to cherish as much privacy as they can even if they are on social media.
Aicelle Santos and Mark Zambrano
Singer Aicelle Santos and GMA news reporter Mark Zambrano are unlikely couple. They come from two different worlds too. But Mark admitted he’s had a long time crush on her. He had introduced himself to her via Instagram.
Ever since he’s seen her as the so-called “Traffic Diva” on Eat Bulaga, Mark knew she was The One. But it was only during late 2015 that he was able to have the guts to introduced himself to her in person.
Mark had waited four years to be able to personally meet Aicelle.
“Noong La Diva days pa lang, crush ko na po siya,” relates Mark.
La Diva used to be the group where Aicelle used to belong together with fellow artists Jonalyn Viray and Maricris Garcia in the now defunct Sunday noontime show S.O.P.
“E, since nandoon pa sila, wala kaming chance na mag-meet. Magkaibang mundo.
“Si Aicelle nasa entertainment, ako naman nasa news. We never met before.
“So, recently lang ulit nung napanood ko siya sa Eat Bulaga, sabi ko lalong gumanda.
Tapos naglakas-loob lang ako, kasi wala akong means to contact her.
“So I followed her sa Instagram. So, doon ako nag-message.”
From May 2016, where they officially became a couple, they now look forward to having a future together as the talk about their wedding plans. Mark sees himself marrying Aicelle. In this case, one Instagram like can go a long way!

Ariana Grande and Jai Brooks
Before the “Dangerous Woman” crooner and her rapper-beau Mac Miller melted hearts on Instagram and in their “My Favorite Part” music video, Arianna met YouTube star Jai Brooks after Brooks tweeted the singer and made a video explaining why she should date him. The pair, who dated on-and-off for two years, officially split in 2014.
Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan actually Instagrammed about matching with her brother, Michael, on Tinder back in 2013. “Look who I just found on @tinderapp … hey bro,” she captioned the shot. Lohan has dated the likes of Aaron Carter, Wilmer Valderrama and Samantha Ronson because of the dating app, Tinder.
Martha Stewart
Martha Stewart gave Match.com a shot in 2013, when the “Today” show helped her set up a profile. The domestic goddess — who divorced husband Andrew Stewart in 1987— went on dates with two men on the site. Martha’s verdict?
“They did a really, really nice job of being dates,” Stewart said, before noting that she would “absolutely” go on another date with both.
Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef
Here’s something for the LGBT community. You don’t really have to use Grindr to get someone special. Trust singer Ricky Martin. Ricky Martin says he found the man of his dreams, thanks to social media. Yes, you read that right. The former “Menudo” [Puerto Rican all men boy band which was popular in the 80’s] frontman said in a recent interview with Andy Cohen, the singer revealed that he found fiancé Jwan Yosef while browsing Instagram.
“I am an art collector and he’s an artist,” said Martin, 45. “I’m scrolling and I see this beautiful piece of art … I wrote to him.”
Martin said the two exchanged messages for about six months.
“We talked about art, nothing sexy … He used to live in London. I went to London and I met him.” Martin gushed about their romance.
“It’s one of those things when you have very beautiful moments, magical moments, magical conversations and beautiful experiences and all this time, you’re thinking, maybe it’s here,” he explained.
“Then you just go for it and allow yourself to feel.”
Describing himself as a “hopeless romantic,” Martin said the couple plans a big wedding celebration.
“I thought, ‘I hope someday I get to wear a freaking ring and celebrate love and bring my family and friends to a big feast and get all Latin crazy on it.’ This [wedding] is going to be Middle Eastern and Latin crazy all at once. It’s going to be one loud wedding!”
The ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ singer also said he hopes to give his eight-year-old twin boys Matteo and Valentino a sister soon.
