Members of the Senate are united in denouncing the recent spate of killing in the country.
Senators from both sides of the political spectrum are one in calling out the rise of EJKs triggered by the recent killing of Kian Delos Santos.
With the public outrage generated by the death of Kian, Senators crossed their political lines to call out the seeming degradation of people’s humanity.
The minority bloc led by opposition Senators immediately called for an inquiry into the death of Kian Delos Santos.
One of the prime critics of the administration Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said “Sobra na. Maling-mali na talaga to. (This is enough. This is so wrong.) I cannot, in conscience, let this pass. The senators should have a united stand to stop this.”
The majority caucus in the Senate who are known allies of the president also issued strong statements denouncing the rise of killings. On their twitter accounts, Senators Loren Legarda, Joel Villanueva, JV Ejercito and Sonny Angara condemned the killing of Kian and shared concerns about EJK.
Senator Legard on her tweet said, while she supports the war on drugs, citizens should be protected from impunity.
Senator JV Ejercito for his part said the killing of Kian is very disturbing.
Another ally of the president, Senator Angara said he is alarmed by the killing of the 17-year Kian.
And Senator Joel Villanueva meanwhile said he is alarmed by the breakdown of humanity in the country.

Senator Chiz Escudero said:
“The policemen who shot to death Kian Loyd Delos Santos on Wednesday night were not only abusive but also killers and criminals.The CCTV footage and eyewitness account clearly show that the boy was killed,”
“The Senate must exercise its oversight authority and conduct a separate probe,” said Senator Ping Lacson.
And Sen. Dick Gordon has this to say:
“For 2 sachets of Shabu, 17 yr old Kian, a student & OFW son was brutally murdered while in Customs 604 kilos came out. Lopsided PNP justice.”
Meanwhile, the Senate majority bloc on Monday, August 21 formally adopted a resolution to probe Kian’s death. The resolution was signed by 17 majority Senators.
