Richard Gutierrez considers his network transfer a new chapter of his showbiz career. He stated that he has no complaints with the good chapter he currently experiences as an actor.
In an interview with PEP.ph, he expressed his happiness in working in ABS-CBN Corporation.
In the said interview, Richard stated:
“Siyempre, I can say na it’s a new chapter in my career, a good chapter, a good start, a fresh start, and exciting for me as an actor, exciting for the audience, and so far so good… Very positive yung feedback. So, I’ve no complaints… ABS-CBN is doing great job on what they do, that is why they’re number one, and it’s always good to work with the best… And right now, I’m at the number one company, so I’m happy.”
Richard also used to have the title of Kapuso Primetime King due to his continuous teleserye in GMA Network such as: Mulawin (2004), Sugo (2005), Captain Barbell (2006), Lupin (2007), Kamandag (2007), Codename: Asero (2008), Zorro (2009), Full House(2009), Captain Barbell: Ang Pagbabalik (2011), Makapiling Kang Muli (2012), and Love & Lies (2013).
After his last teleserye in the said network, Richard didn’t renew his contract. Although he had a reality show with his family, It Takes Gutz To Be A Gutierrez and also had a TV5 series, Carlo J Caparas’ Ang Panday in 2016 which didn’t have that much noise. In 2017, Richard made a huge step in accepting the kontrabida role in La Luna Sangre which also stars Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo.
In the interview, Richard also admitted that he does not worry about getting the stature as a top-rater in ABS-CBN just like he used to in GMA-7.
“Hindi naman. But I guess, I evolved also, not only as an actor, as myself also na… As long as… if you’re an actor and you’re passionate about your craft, as long as you have that passion, hindi mo masasabi kung ano ang puwedeng mangyayari sa career mo.”
Richard revealed that there used to be a time when he became too tired.
“There was a time I was too tired, burnt out, I wasn’t enjoying already. So, ako mismo yung tumalikod, ako mismo yung umayaw. But kinailangan ko lang pala talaga ng time off to realize things, to really know who I am, to really know what matters most. And right now, I’m happy being here.”
Richard also confirmed that he didn’t renew his contract with GMA-7 because he got burnt out.
“Yeah, that was my choice. It is my choice to step away during that time.”
Richard then confessed the reason for his burnout.
“Halu-halo na, e, personal… ang daming nangyari… I guess, I wasn’t prepared, you know? During that time, parang tuluy-tuloy yung trabaho. Hindi ko na kilala yung sarili ko, hindi ko na kilala yung mga kaibigan ko, sino ba talaga yung totoo sa akin, yung mga ganun. “Parang may pinagdaanan lang ako na mga bagay na I’m glad pinagdaanan ko.”
Richard also acknowledged that a lot has changed on his perception on his profession. He also added that he doesn’t take anything for granted anymore.
“Now, I don’t take anything for granted. I consider myself now as a professional. Before, happy-go-lucky lang, e.”
Richard admitted that during his burnout stage, he didn’t want to go to work.
“Somehow, I can’t deny the fact na noong nabi-burnout na ako, I didn’t like going to work. I was always late, bugnutin ako, mainit ulo. I was young and burnt out.”
Richard shared how he changed. He continued to let himself rejuvenate for a while. He also publicized an advice he gave to his La Luna Sangre co-star, Daniel Padilla.
“Noong time off ako, ‘tapos tumira kami sa Switzerland for a while. Tumira ako sa States for a while. So, parang ang sarap lang, parang na-rejuvenate lang yung sarili ko, soul ko, yung pagkatao ko. Mapapaisip ka, mari-realize mo yung mga bagay-bagay. Tapos, parang… kasi pag lagi kang nagtatrabaho, rollercoaster. Kaya sinasabihan ko rin sila DJ na always try to spend time together, try to spend time alone. Para lagi kayong fresh.”
Richard realized that work shouldn’t be about just earning money. He maintained that he loves his craft and will probably continue doing it.
“Yeah, that’s why as actors, it’s also important you have something inside. You don’t do this for money. This is not the most stable job for money, you know. So, you do it because you love it, you do it because you love acting. Ngayon, nandoon na ako sa point na yun, na I love my craft.”
