Pinoy Ako Blog’s author Jover Laurio filed a complaint against pro-Duterte bloggers RJ Nieto of Thinking Pinoy and Sass Rogando Sasot. Laurio asserted that the two violated her rights to privacy and speech.
In the complaint filed in Makati Regional Trial Court, Laurio through her lawyer Juan Gregorio Ragragio alleged that Nieto and Sasot violated Data Privacy Act of 2012 and the provisions of the Civil Code on the rights to privacy and to free speech.
The case stemmed from Nieto and Sasot’s publishing of Laurio’s personal details on their blog sites and social media platforms.
“Nieto and Sasot, each in their own individual capacities, maliciously and with ill intent, collected, recorded, consolidated, and published, without authorization, Laurio’s sensitive personal information” including her full name, user credentials for PAB, and the law school where Laurio is enrolled.” said Atty. Ragrario.
Nieto’s post was published in October 2017.
The leak of Laurio’s personal information has resulted in online harassment and bullying from the Nieto and Sasot’s supporters. It then forced her to take a leave of absence from work and law school causing her moral damages and serious anxiety.
Thus, in the complaint, Laurio is asking for 2.15 million in damages which include 1 million for moral damages, 1 million for exemplary damage, 100,000 nominal damages and P50,000 attorney’s fees.
