Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo attended a Cabinet meeting on May 7, Monday. She attended the said meeting despite calls for her resignation and an impending investigation on an issue against her.
Wanda sent her letter of resignation to President Rodrigo Duterte. According to her lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio, she sent the said letter out of delicadeza.
Celebrities react
Local celebrities also expressed their reaction to Wanda’s resignation on Twitter. Writer and physician, Gideon Lasco, compared Wanda’s episode to Vitaliano Aguirre’s downfall. Agot Isidro also retweeted Gideon’s statement.
“The Wanda Teo episode, just like Aguirre’s downfall, demonstrates one thing: the president’s perceived infallibility does not extend to his allies. There is a god, but there are no saints, in the Iglesia ni Duterte.”
ABS-CBN journalist Karen Davila also weigh in Teo’s resignation.
“Pattern. No matter how close you are to President Duterte – from Justice Sec Aguirre to Wanda Teo – looks like there are no sacred cows.”
She continued, “Right and wrong. Honesty. Propriety. Ethics. Delikadeza. We must bring it back and demand it from our government officials. Hold them to the highest and toughest standards.”
Blogger Noemi Dado also noted that the clamor for Wanda’s resignation still has yet to end.
“Wanda Teo is trending. The clamor of her resignation does not end there. What about accountability and impunity of people involved in the 60 M deal ?”
Blogger and public speaker, Jane Uymatiao, also shared that Wanda’s resignation should be the beginning of an investigation.
“Whoa, I woke up to this! Wanda Teo is fired? Ok fine, but as I said last night, that is just Step 1. This should not be the end but the BEGINNING of an investigation. Public funds yan. Threshold for possible PLUNDER is P50-M. This exceeds that.”
Singer and performer, Lea Navarro, then, was under the impression of President Rodrigo fired Wanda. Wanda would only join a long line of incompetent people that he hired.
“So Duterte fired Tulfo-Teo. She joins a long line of incompetents he hired and had to either fire or have resign. Don’t forget Wiguirre, among others. Shows poor judgment. But resignations are not enough. The crimes still need prosecuting.”
However, musician and TV personality, Jim Paredes also felt that the details about Wanda’s resignation lacking.
“So only Philippine Star has broken the news about Dut asking Wanda to resign. Can any other news sources confirm?”
