- “The Cure” is set to end by the end of July.
- It was predicted that the series will not last long.
- The series will be replaced by Nora Aunor’s “Onanay”.
Jennylyn Mercado and Tom Rodriguez’s “The Cure” is set to end by the last week of July 2018. The series premiered on April 30, 2018, which makes it only a 3-month series (the usual run of a series, one season).
“The Cure” started as very intriguing and was a risky endeavor for the network to begin with. First of all, it is not the typical Filipino TV series that showcases romance, action, and comedy. The series is of sci-fi genre that includes zombies.
The show was highly anticipated during the initial trailer and people were actually excited for it to premiere. If successful, it could’ve been the first zombie series in the Philippine television and could really turn the tides in Filipino-favorite genres.
Sadly, the ratings didn’t turn out as expected. The anticipation easily went sideways and the low ratings continued.
“The Cure” has the same airtime as “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.”

But the production already anticipated that “The Cure” will not be a long-running series.
On April 17, director Mark Reyes stated, “It’s one of the series na sabi ko, let’s not make it long. I think it should not have a long duration. “If it does, it’s probably gonna be extended for a few more weeks, pero I don’t see it.”
On May 8, 2018, GMA Vice President for Corporate Communications Angel Javier-Cruz confirmed that there is no instruction to cut the series short and it will go on the normal run.
To conclude, “The Cure” timeline is already set before it was aired and low rating is not the reason for it to end too soon.
The series will be replaced by yet another highly anticipated series and the comeback of legendary actress Nora Aunor called “Onanay.” From sci-fi to intense drama, “Onanay” will showcase the true essence of a mother’s love.
