GMA Network had high hopes that “Victor Magtanggol” can easily compete with ABS-CBN’s long-running and top-rating show “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.”
As promised, “Victor Magtanggol” showed an extraordinary first week getting the top spot in TV ratings on its pilot episode.
Sadly, the said feat was only accomplished on their first week. The show didn’t grow legs in ratings in the succeeding weeks.
More weeks passed and the show’s ratings continued to dwindle. On the other hand, “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’s” ratings always lands it on the Top 1 or 2 in any surveys.
The GMA management is still hopeful that “Victor Magtanggol” can get back on its feet and is determined to air the show until 2019.
According to Alden Richards who plays the role of “Victor Magtanggol,” he doesn’t mind the ratings as long as they are able to entertain the viewers, especially the kids.
“Ako po, personally, I don’t really mind, kasi yung feedback po and reactions that we got from the audience, especially ang mga bata, yun po yung drive namin to be more passionate about our work.
“Kasi, yung mga aspeto po na yun, especially ratings, hindi na po namin control yun, e.
“Ang tanging magagawa lang po namin, maipagpatuloy ang istorya at saka mapagpatuloy lang po ang magandang kalidad ng Victor Magtanggol,” says Alden.
Coco Martin usually doesn’t comment or even boast about being always on top. He’s just thankful that the Filipinos continue to support the series.
There might be a rivalry between the two shows and the TV networks, but they’re lucky enough to have humble lead actors who wish nothing but to satisfy the audience.
As for the GMA Survey Research on October 8, “Victor Magtanggol” scored 9.5 while “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” got 15.9. At least, GMA Network is honest.
