Prima Donnas is the new afternoon series of GMA Network. Directed by Gina Alajar, it stars Jillian Ward, Sofia Pablo, and Althea Ablan in the title roles. It replaced Bihag and is the newest rival of ABS-CBN’s Kadenang Ginto.
In Philippine TV, female triplets like Sharon Cuneta, Dina Bonnevie, and Cherie Gil in Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas, Manilyn Reynes, Tina Paner, and Sheryl Cruz of That’s Entertainment (their trio was called The Triplets), and DoReMi composed of Donna Cruz, Regine Velasquez, Mikee Cojuangco all had successful projects.
Three budding actresses Jillian, Althea, and Sofia will lead the afternoon block of the network. The three are now being hailed as the newest faces of GMA Network based on the series trailer.
According to the audiovisual presentation at the grand media launch of Prima Donnas last Sunday, August 10, the Kapuso network is now going back to the traditional family drama through the series.
Prima Donnas will include stars like Aiko Melendez, Wendell Ramos, Benjie Paras, Elija Alejo, Katrina Halili, at Chanda Romero.

Its story will revolve around the lives of married couple Jaime (the sole inheritor of the wealthy Claveria Group of Companies) and Maita who have difficulties conceiving a child. They hired Lilian, the daughter of their most trusted housemaid, to be the surrogate mother of their unborn child. She accepts the proposal and later gives birth to the three beautiful girls named Donna Marie, kindhearted and driven; Donna Belle, ambitious and strong-willed; and Donna Lyn, soft-spoken and a mediator.
Starting from August 19, Jillian, Althea, and Sofia will try to outshine Andrea Brillantes and Francine Diaz, the two young stars of the top-rating Kadenang Ginto in the afternoon block.
Knowing this, Jillian admitted that she is fully aware of their rival’s immense popularity but she chose not to put pressure on her part and just focus on the viewers of the show.
“Unang una po sa lahat hindi po natin madedeny na maganda po talaga ng show nila, marami po talagang nag-eenjoy sa show.Pero siyempre itong Prima Donnas panibagong istorya po ito, so kumbaga may alas din po kami yung mga kasamahan po namin mga beterano na yung director namin, writers po namin, production po namin. Talagang binigay po namin yung best namin sa show na ‘to. Bahala na po yung tao kung ano po yung gusto nilang panoorin basta ang importante po sa akin may napapasaya po kahit madami or kaunti basta may napapasaya po ako and may natutunan po sila sa istorya po namin,”Jillian said during the Prima Donnas Mediacon held at the GMA Executive Lounge last August 14.
“Siyempre po sa totoo lang maganda rin po yung show nila. Nakikita ko minsan sa Facebook. Siyempre kailangan po aware ka kung gaano kaganda yung show nila and gaano mo po dapat galingan, para ma-enjoy po ng tao yung show,” she added.
Sofia, a thirteen-year-old actress, echoed the words of Jillian yet she is hoping that viewers will appreciate their new show.
“Aware naman po kami kaya patuloy lang po kami na nagpra-pray na sana mapanood din po ng maraming tao yung show namin. Mapanood din nila yung kwento na ikwekwento namin sa kanila.Sana maramdamin din po nila yung puso namin sa show,” Sofia admitted.
Meanwhile, Althea confessed that she was a fan of Francine and Andrea though she is still looking forward to their new show.
“Abangan nyo po ‘yung Prima Donnas, ibang-ibang istoryo po talaga siya,” Althea added.

Throughout its seasons, Kadenang Ginto has remained the number one series in the afternoon. Many viewers are still hooked on its story and the feisty confrontations of its characters Dimples Romana as Daniela, and Beauty Gonzalez as Romina and with their respective daughters Marga (Andrea) and Cassie (Francine).
