Mustard Music (sub-label of Universal Records Philippines) presents its newest signing, 19 year-old hip-hop artist Barq.
Also known as Arkin Magalona, Barq has decided to continue his father FrancisM’s legacy by coming into his own and making his own brand and style of hip-hop.
His influences include Lil Peep, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Joji, JuiceWrld, ColdHart, Lil Tracy, Travis Scott, Kid Cudi, Tyler the Creator, Kanye West, among many others.
His debut single “Remember” explores thoughts on life after ending a relationship, whether its romantic or a friendship, “flexing” your life afterwards.
The track brings a new vibe to the Filipino rap scene, with its take on trap that has been mostly unheard of locally.
Just as it was released, the track already showed Barq’s potential as it instantly reached #3 on the Hip-hop/Rap Chart on iTunes Philippines.
Barq now joins The Ransom Collective, Good Kid$, Issa Rodriguez, Joey Tha Boy, and Timmy Albert in mustard music’s young, diverse and talented artists in the OPM scene.
