Amidst the network war and channel competition, Kapuso actors Ken Chan and Rita Daniela wished to have a unified ABS-CBN and GMA Ball.
In an interview during the premiere of GMA Pictures Kiko En Lala, Ken and Rita shared their hope to have a joint event for Kapamilya and Kapuso artists like the ABS-CBN Ball.
The idea came up when the two were asked to address the snubbing issue with Kapamilya actress Alex Gonzaga.
In an Instagram post last Monday, September 23, veteran showbiz columnist Lolit Solis slammed Alex for allegedly snubbing Ken and Rita at the airport in Davao City.
Although Alex already denied Solis’ accusation saying she exchanged pleasantries with the two Kapuso artists, the press were still waiting for the reactions of Ken and Rita.
During the interview, the two maintained that observers may have just misinterpreted Alex’s actions during that day. The Kapuso actors instead shared their dream of a happy and friendly relationship with their fellow actors from the Kapamilya network.
“Actually, ang gusto lang naman namin is, alam niyo naman po ang competition between GMA and ABS-CBN and bilang magkaibang network, ang sarap kasi sa pakiramdam na lumalapit kami sa mga Kapamilya natin sa ABS-CBN, artists, mga actors, na gusto naming makipagkaibigan. Ang sarap lang sa pakiramdam na meron kang mga kaibigan sa kabilang istasyon, na hindi namin iniinda, iniisip yung competition,” said Ken.
“Sabi nga namin, sana nga magkaroon ng event ang ABS-CBN at GMA na magkasama, parang GMA Network and ABS-CBN Ball!
“Para lahat magkakaibigan, kahit sa araw na yun, sa gabi na yun, mawala yung…hindi natin isipin yung competition, yung ratings.
“Alam mo yun, parang lahat tayo magkakakilala, na sa isang industriya lahat magkakaibigan,” Ken explained.
“Sana nga, celebrate lang,” Rita added.
ABS-CBN Ball, after being reformatted from the original Star Magic Ball, has already seen some Kapuso artists in attendance.
In this year’s edition, several GMA Network stars graced the event which included Ryan Agoncillo, Kylie Padilla, Eric Quizon, Marvin Agustin, Raymond Bagatsing, and direk Chris Martinez.
GMA Network once tried to match the Star Magic Ball.
In 2011, the Kapuso Network staged the GMA Artist Center Ball which was done in line with the launch of GMA Publishing’s Profiles Magazine. Unfortunately, GMA Network wasn’t able to sustain it, thus no succeeding events were made.
