Lawyer and movie critic Ferdinand Topacio thinks that Nadine Lustre is a much better actress than contemporary Kathryn Bernardo.
In his recent interview with the media, Topacio said Nadine “is, by far, the greatest actress of her generation.
“Ako iyong unang nagsabi na si Nadine Lustre is, by far, the greatest actress of her generation. I used that for ‘Ulan‘ (movie review). Kasi consistent (great acting) siya,” he said.
“Naisip ko nga noong una after ng ‘Never Not Love You‘ baka fluke. Pero nasundan pa ng ‘Ulan,” he added.
Topacio admitted that Never Not Love You is one of his favorite Filipino films so far.
Nadine has bagged three best actress awards from FAMAS, Young Critics Circle. and Gawad Urian for her performance in Never Not Love You with on-and-off screen partner James Reid.
“Magaling si Nadine eh,” Topacio said when asked for his reaction on the Kapamilya star’s bagging best actress awards.
“I don’t know how she does it at a young age,” he added.
According to Topacio, Kathryn is a good actress but not as great as Nadine.
In his Philippine STAR film review of Never Not Love You, Topacio said Nadine “manages to convey an entire treasure trove of emotions, often several strata at a time, that she fills the screen with solid blasts of feelings.”
He said the effect on the audience is not so much making one cry, “but hitting you in the gut, in your heart of hearts.”
He noted that the last scene of the movie, where the multi-talented actress “poignantly projects an entire gamut of emotive contradictions without saying a word, will surely become one of the most memorable moments in local cinema.”
Topacio added that Nadine in agreeing to star in “Ulan” that may not appeal to a wide audience showed that “she is conscious of leaving a legacy of significant cinematic content more than box-office success.
“In other words, Lustre is concerned more with greatness than with gross,” the lawyer said in his Ulan movie review.
Nadine and Kathryn are among the most sought-after actresses of their generation.
The Kapamilya actresses have always been compared with each other because of their striking physical resemblance.
Both actresses are also in long-term relationships with their boyfriends—Nadine with James Reid and Kathryn with Daniel Padilla.
Although some netizens continue to pit them against each other, Nadine and Kathryn have consistently shrugged off comparisons.
They have always said that they are not competing with each other.
Nadine is currently among the all-star judging panel of ABS-CBN’s latest reality talent competition, Your Moment along with Billy Crawford and Boy Abunda.
