Star Magic Artist Gerald Anderson was recently appointed as the new Philippine Youth Ambassador on December 8, 2019 at the Grand Ballroom of Venus Hotel in Baguio City.
KASAMA (Kabataang Sama-samang Maglilingkod) President Gerald Ortiz, KASAMA National Adviser Nellie King, ULAP (Union of Local Authority of the Philippines) President and Quirino Governor Dakila “Dax” Cua, and Senator Imee Marcos were the ones who appointed the Kapamilya actor as the new ambassador after Dingdong Dantes and the late Rico Yan.
During the ceremony, Gerald told almost the 900 Sangguniang Kabataan leaders from all over the country about his Ondoy experience back in 2009.
He said, “Hindi po ako nag-dalawang isip lumusong sa tubig, siyempre bata at adventurous, para tanungin ko mga kapit-bahay ko if nangangailangan sila ng tulong.”
It was during that time when he then realized the importance of using his popularity to help more people.
He continued, “Dun ko po nakita ‘yung influence ng isang artista para tumulong sa kapwa. Mula noong araw na ‘yon, sinabi ko sa sarili ko na. gagawin ko ang best ko, basta nasa position ako at kaya ko, para makatulong sa iba.”
Now that he’s the new Philippine Youth Ambassador, he plans to reach out to more people.
“Unang-una makapagbigay ng inspiration at ipakita kung gaano ka-importante tumulong sa iba basta kaya natin. Kailangan ‘yung bang tao, kung ano kaya nating ibigay, ibigay natin sa iba at marami tayong matutunan sa pagtulong sa iba. May plano kami about education, siyempre sports na mas malapit sa puso ko.”
Despite all the personal issues he has to go through, Gerald never fails to help people to the best that he can.
“I’m very honored, very proud and I’m very excited kasi merong panibagong platform para makatulong sa ibang tao.”
Meanwhile, some netizens remained unhappy with the actor and they could not believe that KASAMA appointed him as the new ambassador. In fact, one netizen claimed that it was actually a downgrade, from Dingdong Dantes to Gerald.

Many have questioned Gerald’s new position as a role model for the youth, given the rumors that he cheated on girlfriend Bea Alonzo with Julia Barretto, his Between Maybes co-star. The same scenario also happened with his previous girlfriends Kim Chiu and Maja Salvador.
