Actor-singer Billy Crawford volunteered to play a role in the movie, Mia.
Actress Coleen Garcia, who plays the lead character Mia, said her husband, Billy, personally talked to the “bosses” of the film to get a role.
“Siya talaga nag-prisinta sa sarili niya. Siya talaga nag-volunteer. Iyong mga bosses naman namin sabi, ‘O sige go! No problem,'” Coleen said on the sidelines of the media preview for Mia on Thursday.
Billy, who tied the knot with Coleen in April 2018, has a surprise appearance in the film.
Although it’s just a cameo role, the actor’s role is very important and is connected to Coleen’s character.
“Masayang-masaya siya to be a part of the movie kasi gustong-gusto niya talaga iyong script,” the actress said.
“So masaya siya na in that small way napasama siya sa movie,” she added.
When asked if she will be doing more films with Billy, Coleen suddenly admitted that she feels awkward acting with her husband.
“Alam mo na-o-awkward talaga ako kapag ka-eksena ko si Billy. Sobra! For some reason, hindi ko siya ma-imagine na ibang tao. So na-o-awkward talaga ako,” she said.
“Pero if maganda iyong material and bagay sa aming dalawa, why not?” she added.
Apart from Coleen, Edgar Allan “EA” Guzman also stars in the movie directed by Veronica Velasco and produced by Chris Cahilig of Insight 360 in partnership with Viva Films.
Coleen is Mia Salazar, a doctor who becomes a self-destructive alcoholic after losing her fiancé, while EA is nerdy forester Jay Policarpio, who transforms mined-out land into rainforests.
The two cross paths when Mia joins the Doctor to the Barrios program to recover from her loss.
Mia and Jay often argue but their clashes eventually turn into a romantic affair.
Coleen said this is her first romantic comedy or “rom-com” movie and she’s looking forward to doing some more.
Meanwhile, EA said “Mia” would bring “kilig” to moviegoers.
“Kahit ako kinilig talaga ako. So ayun, ang sarap sa feeling. Ang galing din ni Coleen,” the actor said.
“Mia” is a film on finding hope and love with an ending that can leave you with a sense of satisfaction.
It also managed to pull off something that is notable, particularly on raising awareness about the environment.
“Mia” also stars Yayo Aguila, William Martinez, Star Orjaliza, Jeremy Domingo, Sunshine Teodoro, Pau Benitez, and Xenia Barrameda.
The movie will be shown in cinemas on January 15.
