Kapamilya artist Jane De Leon recently posted a message on her Instagram account in support of all the Kapamilyas who lost their jobs due to ABS-CBN shutdown and to all her fellow artists who were out on the streets rallying for the ABS-CBN network.
The artist has been receiving criticism from the netizens regarding her silence and lack of support towards the issue and people mentioned that she shouldn’t have been chosen as the ‘new Darna’ because she lacked the capability to fight for the Filipino people.
Jane broke her silence and expressed her opinion through her Instagram post.

She stated that she shares her deepest sympathy for all the ABS-CBN employees who are struggling with the network’s shutdown especially in difficult times like this where the world is suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic. She is saddened by the shutdown of her home network who helped her build her career as an artist and gave her an opportunity to reach her goals in life.
“Masakit po sa akin ang nangyari sa ABS-CBN dahil pangalawang tahanan ko na rin po ito na syang nagbigay sa akin ng mga opportunities to gradually reach my goals in life, na unti-unting nagpabago sa buhay ko at ng aking pamilya,” she said.
“I will forever be thankful sa ABS-CBN and its Management,” she added.
Jane spoke up about the issue of her lack of support with the network by saying that all of the people have their own way or approach in facing the challenges that the shut down brought. She said that rallying in the streets is not the only way to support the network especially in this time of the pandemic.
Even if she is not rallying on the streets with her fellow Kapamilya artists, Jane wanted the people to know that she is still supporting all the ABS-CBN employees who lost their jobs in a way that she knows will be safe from the virus.
“My support to the current crisis that the network is facing right now is not just measured by going out in the streets in this time of pandemic. Alam kong para sa nakakarami sa sa atin, masakit ang closure ng ABS-CBN. Nakiki-isa at nakikisimpatya rin po ako sa mga kapwa ko Kapailya na nawalan ng kabuhayan,” Jane said.
She pointed out that the people should be reminded of the bigger picture that the COVID-19 brings. That people are still fighting from the invisible virus which still threatens our lives up to this day. She also said that frontliners continue to risk their safety to be able to help others that’s why people should cooperate and be responsible for practicing quarantine protocols and staying at home as to not acquire the virus.
“Dadagdag pa ba tayo sa lumolobong bilang at patuloy na pagtaas ng COVID cases sa ating bansa?” she wrote.
Jane also mentioned that there is nothing wrong with having a positive outlook on life despite the crisis that we are all facing. She said that people should not stop themselves to go on with life just because something negative occurred.
She advised the people to keep on living when she said, “Even if the world stops, we still have to keep moving forward.”
The Kapamilya artist said that people can show their support in many ways that they can and that it could go a long way. She hoped that the people will not judge others so easily just because they don’t see a person do the things that they wanted or expected to see. She believed that prayers and extreme faith in God can be people’s strongest weapon in this pandemic.
“Let’s continue to do better to improve ourselves and continue helping those in need. Everyone is capable of this. Even a little goes a long way. Tuloy po ang buhay at tuloy din po ang suporta natin sa pinagdadaanan ng ating network at mga kapwa natin Kapamilya,” Jane said.
She ended her post by saying, “This is Jane de Leon, your Kapamilya.”
Many people believed that Jane’s post is an answer to Angel Locsin’s callout to the Kapamilya artists who continue to stay quiet with the ABS-CBN shutdown and preferred to stay away from talking about politics.
Angel spoke in front of her fellow demonstrators and unleashed her frustrations over the failed battle of ABS-CBN for franchise renewal. She criticized her fellow Kapamilya artists who keep on posting on their Instagram accounts as if they’re not aware of their network’s struggles.
“Sa lahat ng artistang hindi nagsasalita, ano? May career pa ba kayo? Wala na, wala na kayong network,” Angel said.
“Kahit magpa-cute kayo diyan sa Instagram, mag-send kayo ng mga sad face—hinde niyo nadadamayan ang mga katrabaho niyong dahilan kung bakit kayo sumikat,” she added.
There are people who supported Angel’s words and also expressed their frustrations over Kapamilya artists who kept their silence about the issue. Among the artists who received criticisms was Jane de Leon who was supposed to be ABS-CBN’s new ‘Darna’.
Jane’s simple post of sorrow on Twitter regarding the denied franchise of ABS-CBN sustained negative backlash from the netizens who were belittling her actions. Netizens said that her actions were not enough as the one who is representing as ‘Darna’ for the people.
Ito lang ang kayang gawin ng isang Darna? Kaya hindi ka lumipad-lipad! https://t.co/DA46PkPHDu

Jane’s recent post on Instagram about her sudden concern for ABS-CBN after a callout from Angel Locsin was also bashed by the people. Netizens said that prayers alone would not resolve the network’s crisis because the people need to stand up and fight against the government’s cruelties.

You better step up on your game sis, dahil ang Darna na susundan mo is setting the bar so high that only a woman with the same principles, beliefs, acting skills and energy can do justice to the role. If you’re not ready for that, then give it to the deserving already.

This might change in the future, but as of now Jane de Leon is the Darna we don’t need and also the Darna we don’t deserve

Jane de Leon was one of the members of Girltrends, a female dance group of ABS-CBN’s noontime variety show It’s Showtime. She was chosen as the new actress who will star in the upcoming superhero film ‘Darna’ as the iconic superheroine. Before de Leon, both Angel Locsin and Liza Soberano were respectively cast for the title role but both had to leave due to injuries they had acquired.
