Reality TV shows have always been a gateway for people to enter the world of showbiz. Like ABS-CBN’s reality game show “Pinoy Big Brother”, it is one good way to get exposed and see one’s potential as an artist.
With Haira Palaguitto who recently got evicted, here at LionhearTV, we’re curious why she entered this year’s “Pinoy Big Brother: Connect”. So we asked her during an exclusive interview why she tried her luck in auditioning for the popular reality show.
In fact, her reason is just like most contestants—to enter show business. According to Haira, joining the contest is one of her reasons why she entered it is her dream to become famous.
“Actually, opo. Isa po yun sa reason. Kasi pangarap ko po talaga na makapasok sa showbiz,” Haira answered.
Her reason? Because Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla who goes by the portmanteau KathNiel, inspired her. The former PBB housemate shared that she wanted to be like the power couple.
“Super pangarap ko po. Lalo po kapag napapanuod ko ‘yung mga movies, mga teleseryes nina ate Kathryn at ni Kuya Daniel. Sobrang gustung-gusto ko pong matulad po sa kanila. Sobrang pangarap ko po talaga na makapasok ng showbiz,” she shared.
And with her determination to be like her idols, she pursued to enter this season’s PBB. She knew that the reality show would be her ticket to stardom.
“Tsaka kaya ayun po, nung mga last season, kapag nanunuod ako ng PBB, gustung-gusto ko talaga. Sinasabi ko talaga sa sarili ko, ‘one time papasok rin ako dyan.’ At tsaka parang sinabi ko rin na baka PBB yung maging way para makapasok ako ng showbiz,” Haira added.
Now that we know who inspired her to enter showbiz, why them? Apparently, Haira shared that she was moved by how good KathNiel is in acting.
“Sa KathNiel po, napanuod ko po na parang 16 or 17 po ata sila nagsimula sa showbiz. Tapos hanggang ngayon super boom sila. Sila talaga yung naging inspiration ko para pumasok nang showbiz. Kasi nakita ko na sobrang galing nilang umakting.
“Talagang madadala kung sino yung manunuod. Tsaka sobrang nakaka-inspire din sila sa mga pinapakita nila sa showbiz. Silang dalawa actually, si ate Kathryn at si kuya Daniel, sobrang inspiration sila sa lahat. Hindi lang sa kabataan, pati na rin sa mga adults na nanunuod sa kanila,” she said.
KathNiel, a good role model for everyone.
Indeed, during the press conference of the web series, “The Hows of Us”, critically acclaimed director Cathy Garcia-Molina could only say praises to the couple.
According to Molina, the reason why they are good examples to follow is that they are good people both on and off cam.
“KathNiel is a good role model or idols for the youth because they are good people in real life,” she said during the press conference.
A primary example of KathNiel’s being good role models was during the typhoon Ulysses’ and Rolly’s onslaught. It is known that the celebrity couple extended their help to the victims, earning a commendation from the Vice President of the Philippines, Leni Robredo. Through her Facebook page, the VP praised them for being such good role models.
“KATHNIELS, fans of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, did their own donation drive for the typhoon victims. Kathryn and Daniel have been quietly helping victims and now their fans are following [in their] footsteps. This is the power of having good role models,” VP Robredo wrote.
Because of their initiative to help those affected, they also inspired their fans to conduct their own donation drive to help. The donation drive garnered 300,000 in donations which helped 700 families who received the blow from the typhoons.
During ABS-CBN’s downfall, despite many talents from the Kapamilya network leaving, Daniel and Kathryn never had any thoughts to leave the TV station. What they did was fight for the network and ask whatever they could do to help.
KathNiel leads their fans to do good to others, is a good example of role models that people should look up to. Using their popularity to initiate a movement to help the disadvantaged is how role models should roll. They are not only good at making movies or TV shows, but they are also good at showing people how it should be done. Therefore, individuals follow in their footsteps. And that is why many people look up to them. Not because they are celebrities, but because of how they are as role models.
