Known DDS propagandist Jam Magno struck at Rabiya Mateo anew. Magno scrutinized the beauty queen’s official national costume to the Miss Universe 2020 pageant.
During the 69th edition of the Miss Universe national costume competition, Mateo donned a Philippine-flag-inspired attire adorned with blue and red feathers and accentuated with yellow stars. Despite Mateo serving onlookers with “Victoria’s Secret Fashion realness” topped with Filipino pride, Magno still went on social media to criticize the Philippine representative.
On her facebook page, Magno compared Mateo’s costume to a feather duster.
Magno also wrote that Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray did not choose Mateo, noting how she trended more than the beauty queen.
After that, Magno scrutinized the beauty queen for wearing a flag-inspired attire as a costume and referred to Mateo’s previous reply to Pres. Rodrigo Duterte on women leaders.
Netizens came to Mateo’s defense.

Remember: Poland will have more chances of qualifying both the #Eurovision2021 grand final and the #MissUniverse2020 Top 21 than Jam Magno will ever have a chance to sabotage Rabiya Mateo's chance at entering the Miss Universe 2020 Top 21.

Dear Jam Magno ,

As for Magno’s post stating that Gray didn’t choose Mateo for her top costumes, the 2018 Miss Universe clarified that she did not base her ‘national costume top picks’ on the candidate’s performances.
My best in National Costume picks are my favorite National Costumes, not based on the candidates performance. I love the celebration of culture and a country's expression of identity which is why its one of my favorite segments! @MissUniverse

Gray even lauded Mateo’s perseverance despite the difficulties she faced behind the scenes before wearing the national costume.
Our girl literally said, 'no sun in my natcos? I am the sun.' 🤩💛💛💛 #AribaRabiya

As for Magno’s talking point of Mateo breaking the law by wearing a flag-inspired costume, a lawyer countered Magno on Instagram.
Atty JV wrote, “the law punishes the wearing of the flag. It does not prohibit flag-inspired outfits.”
