Will iQiyi help GMA Network improve its viewership?

As of this moment, the available show of the Kapuso Network in the iQiyi platforms is the drama romantic comedy series, “First Yaya”. But soon, upcoming shows like “Legal Wives,” “Nagbabagang Luha,” and “Love You Stranger,” will also be streamed on both the iQiyi’s website and app.

GMA Network firmly believes that with iQiyi, an on-demand online movie and video streaming website, its viewership will improve and its range increased.

The Kapuso Network recently closed a multi-year deal with iQiyi, making Kapuso dramas the first-of-its-kind to be available on the service.

Addressing the concern that the Network is currently available via fee TV, Reena Garingan, GMA Network’s advisor for content sales, syndication, partnership, and distribution said that the streaming platform will surely boost the Kapuso Network’s reach.

The reason is that with iQiyi, viewers will have the opportunity to watch episodes of their favorite shows even if they missed them.

“The moment the series which were selected by iQiyi, they can actually go past the 24 hours to watch it. And they can keep going back with the previous episode,” said Garingan during the virtual press conference for the partnership, Thursday, April 29.

“So this partnership is very important because it definitely increases the range, not only on free-to-air but also in the different platforms that iQiyi have,” she added.

As of this moment, the available show of the Kapuso Network in the iQiyi platforms is the drama romantic comedy series, First Yaya. But soon, upcoming shows like Legal Wives, starring Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo, together with Alice Dixson, Andrea Torres, and Bianca Umali; Nagbabagang Luha, led by Glaiza de Castro and Rayver Cruz and; Love You Stranger of real-life couple Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos will also be streamed on both the iQiyi’s website and app.

About the show being the first to be made available in iQiyi, Sherwin Dela Cruz, iQiyi Philippines’ country manager, said that it’s because of the show’s target market hitting the company’s intended audience.

“Regards for the content, like the First Yaya and others, there were lots of reasons. But the obvious reason was the target market that they tap,” said Dela Cruz.

Watch Kapuso shows via the iQiyi International app or on iQ.com for only Php99 per month, giving the privilege to enjoy all of iQiyi’s premium content.
