After 14 years in showbiz, actor Josef Elizalde revealed on Thursday, April 28, that he was finally able to portray his dream role.
Before top-billing in Doblado where he plays his dream character Ronan, the actor first played supporting roles. Elizalde got his first-ever lead role in Viva’s sexy-drama movie Ex-Deal 2.
“Actually, yung character ni Ronan, isa siya sa mga dream roles na gusto ko talagang ganapan dati pa. Tapos ayun, naibigay sa akin ito,” he shared during the movie’s virtual media conference.
He did not detail what his character description is not to spoil the film.
Elizalde admitted he was hesitant to accept the project at first due to the Dublado’s director, award-winning filmmaker GB Sampedro.
“I had some hesitations accepting the project dahil nga ayokong mabigo kay Direk na baka hindi ko ma-portray ang character. Kasi nga challenging siya.”
He considered the previous roles he played prior to Dublado, saying “No’ng in-offer nila sa’kin to do sexy, I was hesitant at first. Kasi nga siyempre, kinakabahan ako. Parang ready na ba ako? Puro pa-cute lang ako dati, patawa. So it’s a new environment for me and it’s a different style of acting also. So s’yempre I had to think about it muna, kung magagawa ko ba, kung kaya ko ba.”
The actor added, “I think just the fact na accepting the role, I think ‘yon na ang biggest challenge ko for that.”
His decision to try and do sexy films was to explore different genres.
“Sinabi ko rin sa kanya (his mom) na it’s something that I’m really open and I’m willing to try. Kasi nga, wala eh, parang gusto kong ma-experience lahat ng pagiging artista,” explained Elizalde. “So for me, to do that, kailangan kong ma-experience ito.”
So far, he enjoys being a sexy actor.
“Eh so far naman nage-enjoy naman ako and masaya naman siya. It’s challenging and fun at the same time.”
In Doblado, he co-stars alongside newbie sexy actress Denise Esteban. The cast also includes a mix of seasoned and new artists in Kier Legaspi, Mark Anthony Fernandez, Jiad Arroyo, Gwen Garci, and Stephanie Raz.
The movie will make its world premiere via Vivamax on May 6.
