On July 15, Viva artist-writer Quinn Carillo recalled the true-to-life inspiration behind the psycho-thriller Tahan.
At the media conference for Tahan, Carillo clarified that she based Tahan on a story of someone she knew who got sold when they were eleven years old.
“Hindi naman po siya like a personal story of mine, but I really got this from a person I knew. I would not drop names, pero 11 years old siya, that specific na binenta siya sa isang person– basta binenta siya ng nanay niya for a very low price because her mom was an addict.”
She then noted that some of the lines in the script of Tahan came from the person she knew.
“So doon ko siya– from then brineak down ko siya. Yes kilala ko siya– kilalang kilala ko siya personally, even the lines of Miss Jane, na ‘yung mga nanghihingi ng pera. It’s another person, pero I knew person like this na ‘yung mga parents nila ganon makapagdemand sa mga anak nila.
“Just because you don’t know someone like this, doesn’t mean they don’t exist, so gusto ko ipakita sa tao na there’s people like these. Kaya nilagay ko siya sa story na ‘to.”
Carillo also expressed amazement with how director Bobby Bonifacio interpreted her script.
“Ang ganda, paulit-ulit ako kay Direk, ‘Direk, totoo ba? Ito na ba ‘yung sinulat ko?’ Hindi ko siya na ano– iba ‘yung vision ko, tapos noong ininterpret ni Direk like this it was, ‘ Direk, ang ganda sobrang thank you.’ Sobrang nakaka-flatter talaga and I’m very, very grateful and happy na ito ‘yung nagawa naming pelikula.”
Tahan stars Cloe Barreto, Jaclyn Jose, and JC Santos. Catch the premiere of the Vivamax original movie produced by Mentorque Productions and Viva, directed by Bobby Bonifacio and written by Quinn Carillo, on July 22 via Vivamax.
